Summer holidays are nearly here, and it’s the perfect time for new adventures! Did you know engaging in hobbies can spark your child’s brain in incredible ways? 🧠💥 When children find a hobby they love, it not only lights up their brain 💡, enhancing neural connections essential for learning and creativity, but also releases feel-good dopamine, developing their perseverance and boosting their wellbeing! Encourage your child to explore a range of activities this summer. From playing tennis to the guitar, or from gardening to baking or painting, nurturing passions builds character and life skills! For under 8s, it’s great to focus on fundamental movements, being active, and nurturing an appreciation for the natural world, sensory experiences, and diverse artistic expressions. As they grow, you can focus on developing more technical skills or engaging in team sports, as well as hobbies that foster creative and technical skills such as photography, theatre, or coding. These can provide both creative outlets and technical skills. Need help over the holidays? The Rocket House teachers and tutors are always on hand to inspire and support your child in discovering and excelling in their new favorite hobbies! If you’re unsure, you could book a session for your child and a few friends first, then progress to 1:1 or even specialised coaching! #hobby #kidshobby #childdevelopment #creativekids #familyfuntime #learnthroughplay #parentingtips #healthyhabits #summerlearning #kidsactivities

Building self-confidence in children is not about encouraging a big personality but nurturing a deep sense of self-worth and resilience. Did you know the development of self-confidence is closely linked to a child’s early experiences? Here are some quick tips to support your children: 🌟 Understanding Confidence: Confidence is more than being outgoing—it’s about feeling secure in who you are. It means knowing your strengths and having the courage to try new things and have a go, even if you don’t succeed at first. 🌱 Why It Matters: When they are less scared about trying and failing, children are more likely to engage in learning, take healthy risks, and navigate social situations. How they see themselves and how they approach challenges can impact on their future well-being. Do role model how you face challenges and keep on trying! 📚 Encourage Exploration: Let your child explore their interests and face challenges. Greater autonomy as they grow will help them understand their capabilities. 🤗 Emotional Support: Ensure they know they have a secure base in you. If you are supportive, present and actively listen to your child, they’ll know they can return to you when things get tough. Secure attachments can boost their willingness to step out of their comfort zone. 💬 Diverse Perspectives: Recognise that confidence can look different for each child. It’s not about being the loudest in the room but about feeling valued and capable. 🔍 Stay Tuned: We’ll explore ‘confidence’ more in depth in our upcoming blog! #parentingtips #emotionalgrowth #secureattachment #growthmindset #selfworth #childwellbeing #emotionaldevelopment #childpsychology #selfconfidence #childdevelopment

Love this visual about felt-safety to remind us the importance of creating environments where children are emotionally safe and supported. If your brain is on alert, how are you going to engage, explore, enjoy and learn?
We all know the importance of physical safety, but what about feeling safe on an emotional level? This concept, called felt safety, is crucial for our psychological wellbeing. Imagine a child who feels constantly judged or criticized. Their nervous system is likely on high alert, making it difficult to relax, learn, or connect with others. Now, consider a child who feels loved, supported, and understood. They're free to explore, take risks, and bounce back from setbacks. Felt safety isn't just about children. It's a fundamental human need for adults as well. When we feel safe, we can: * Relax and de-stress * Build healthy relationships * Take on challenges * Learn and grow The post image is from an incredible 3-page PDF handout by Robyn Gobbel.
