This one hits especially close to home for us at Treeapp. 👇 The wildfires in Greece are now under control, but the damage they’ve left behind is extensive. With temperatures soaring past 40°C, dry landscapes, and strong winds, over 100,000 acres of land were scorched in just a few days, displacing thousands of families and devastating ecosystems. This crisis underscores the urgent need for action against climate change—a mission central to Treeapp’s founding. 🌳 For Godefroy, our co-founder, the 2018 Athens wildfires were a turning point. Witnessing the destruction firsthand made him acutely aware of the need for climate action after disasters like this. For Jules, our co-founder, the story is similar—the importance of responsible reforestation hit home when Turkey’s ambitious effort to plant 11 million trees in a day ended with 90% of them dying shortly after. He realised that planting trees isn’t just about the numbers—it’s about doing it right. It's crucial to continue raising awareness about disasters like this and taking action to prevent them in the future. Each tree we plant is a step towards a greener, safer future—one where we can prevent the kind of devastation seen in Greece and around the world. 💚

🌳NEW PROJECT: protecting red pandas and restoring ecosystems in Tumling, Nepal 🐼 We're excited to announce the launch of a new restoration project in Tumling village, Nepal—a region vital to the survival of the endangered red panda. This initiative addresses critical challenges like forest degradation, climate change, and water scarcity that impact both local wildlife and communities. Tumling's fragmented habitat is home to red pandas, but their survival is increasingly threatened. Local reports of declining water levels and unusual weather patterns, including heavy March snowfall, underline the urgency of this project. 🌎 In response, the reforestation efforts aim to restore balance and create a sustainable habitat for red pandas. 11 different species types are being planted at the Tumling Restoration Site, including Lithocarpus pachyphyllus, Daphniphyllum himalayanse, and Rhododendron campanulatum (sorry, long scientific names...). These species are chosen not only to support the ecosystem but also to stabilise the land and enhance water retention. The team is committed to ongoing care—mulching, weeding, and staking—to ensure these seedlings thrive in Tumling's challenging conditions of dry soil and high winds. 🌱 Don't worry, some verrrrry cute red panda photos will be coming soon!

There’s still more work ahead, but these Games are a big step toward a greener, more sustainable future. 🌳

Meet the heroes planting trees in Ecuador! 🌳 👏 When planting trees as a business, it's easy to forget about the dedicated individuals on the ground making it all happen. The amazing tree planting team in the mountainous regions of Ecuador are doing fantastic work with the Polylepis species, a diverse family of 28 recognised shrub and tree species native to the tropical Andes. 🌱 These species are commonly found at mid to high elevations and are resilient trees crucial for the region's ecosystem. 🗺 The team is also exploring modifications to species in the tree nurseries near the planting site to enhance their adaptability and growth. Our planting site in Scotland is no ordinary location. 🔍 ⁠ The Berwickshire woodland was carefully selected to be a part of our UK reforestation initiative as it aims to heal the land severely affected by the Arwen storm in 2021. ⛈ ⁠ This catastrophic event led to the destruction of 16 million trees, impacting Scotland's native woodlands and crucial wildlife habitats. 🌳 🐦 ⁠ We aim to reforest the site with a focus on improving species diversity and planting structure to ensure more resilient woodland. 🌳 We're in a new era for nature: EU Restoration Law is approved! ✅ The Nature Restoration Law, aims to restore at least 20% of the EU's land and sea areas by 2030, and all degraded ecosystems by 2050. At Treeapp, we're beyond excited about this news! This law will: 🌱 Rehabilitate Natural Habitats: Restore wetlands, rivers, forests, grasslands, urban, and marine ecosystems. Plus, it'll prevent the deterioration of already improved areas and protect important habitats like peatlands and coral beds. 🐝 Boost Biodiversity: Support pollinators, help plant billions of trees, and protect endangered species like certain butterflies and birds. 🏞 Improve Ecosystems: Remove human-made barriers from rivers to let them flow freely again. The law also includes planting at least three billion new trees by 2030 and making sure we don't lose any urban green spaces or tree canopy cover. This law is crucial—not just for planting trees, but for maintaining these ecosystems so our planet really feels the benefits. It's all about harnessing nature to clean our air and water, pollinate crops, and protect us from natural disasters.
