Have you ever considered what questions not to ask AI to solve? More and more companies are looking to master prompt engineering for generative AI, and employers are increasingly recognising it as a core competency to encourage across the workforce. However, according to philosopher Pia Lauritzen, PhD, there are three essential questions that should never be left to AI. In this conversation with Deloitte Insights, recorded at our #Thinkers50 Gala in London this past November, she shares what these are for you to avoid. Pia is the founder and CEO of Qvest, and studies the philosophy behind questions and how they shape human thinking and knowledge. She is also a member of the Thinkers50 Radar Class of 2023 and was shortlisted for the 2023 Thinkers50 Radar Award. How do we create a work environment that actually reflects both our outer world as well as inner lives? As Amy Edmondson says, with an environment of uncertainty, we must have room for vulnerability. #AI is fundamentally transforming the workforce, rendering some traditional skills obsolete while driving a surge in demand for new competencies, like prompt engineering. However, this technological evolution poses a significant challenge to skill acquisition. The push to optimize productivity with intelligent technologies often results in junior workers being distanced from the experts they would typically learn from. How do managers step up from merely giving red or green light to new decisions to actually investing some of themselves in the process? Rather than being the nay- or yay-sayer, it’s the role of a true leader to help calibrate the decision process along the way, according to our latest guest on #TheProvocateurs Podcast, Atif Rafiq. In his experience, leaders must lend a bit of themselves to both their teams and the organisation in general. This, he says, is accomplished by allowing space for exploration, having multiple input meetings before settling on any output, and by the manager functioning as calibrator rather than controller. In this episode, Deloitte’s Geoff Tuff and #Thinkers50’s Des Dearlove spoke with Atif about navigating the complexities of leadership, digital innovation and disruption, and treading a career path filled with accidental metamorphoses. How do we protect ourselves and each other from burning out at work? We won’t get far by ourselves, and power lies in a community that lifts each other up, as Morra Aarons-Mele argues. Back in May, #Thinkers50 and Silicon Guild hosted the LinkedIn Live series #MindMatters, where we, in honour of Mental Health Awareness, placed our focus on workplace mental wellbeing. In our third session, ‘The Anxious Achiever’ author, Morra Aarons-Mele, moderated the conversation with guests Basima Tewfik, Alyson Meister, and Jon M. Jachimowicz on the topic of No More Burnout: How to Fight Back, Find Time, and Stop Letting Technology Win.
