Leaving a gift to a charity in their will is a way for an individual to leave an enduring legacy and continue to make a difference to a cause which was important to them during their lifetime. To both respect the individual’s intended legacy and ensure the beneficiaries of the charity’s work enjoy the greatest possible benefit from it, it is essential that all parties work together to maximise its value. Here, Paul Hill, shares some top tips to help achieve this. https://lnkd.in/eSd69KDT #charitylaw

Really useful advice from Alisa Sweeney for those in the hospitality industry who are looking for a new site and need to negotiate a lease #hospitality
You have found the ideal site for your new restaurant, café or shop, and you are keen to get in, fit-out, make the place your own and start trading. But what needs to be considered by you to be included within the new lease for the property? Here, I outline the key things that need to be thought about, from turnover rents and fit-outs, to licences and repairs. #Foodanddrink #Leasenegotiations https://lnkd.in/egMmhWDp

The first major review in over a hundred years of the law affecting co-operatives and community benefit societies is being undertaken by the Law Commission. The existing rules governing the formation and operation of these interesting models require careful navigation, and proposed improvements in clarity and consistency in relevant legislation may result in the enhanced promotion of these types of businesses and their treatment as proper alternatives to the better-known business structures. Here, Jayne Adams explores how co-operatives and community benefit societies work. #cooperatives #communitybenefitsocieties #charitylaw https://lnkd.in/dnzwsfGp

Useful insight from Nick Hobden on what charities need to be aware of when it comes to The Public Sector Equality Duty.
I lead a team helping organisations and people with their employment and equality issues to secure the right outcome. I am an expert in TUPE. My client base includes manufacturing, services, charity & education clients.
The Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) mandates that public authorities and those exercising public functions consider how their decisions and policies affect people with protected characteristics. One of the key mechanisms for ensuring compliance with the PSED is conducting an Equality Impact Assessment (EIA). In this article I address how the PSED applies to charities, the importance of EIAs, and practical steps to avoid unintended detrimental harm to individuals with protected characteristics. https://lnkd.in/eXvW9K9e #Charitylaw
