Mark-down is a pivotal part of the retail trading cycle. It is usually viewed as a necessary cost, but is less often seen as an opportunity. The pressures of soft demand and over-capacity make getting the numbers right more imperative than ever. The opportunity lies in the potential of tech to extract a much better return from mark-down trading. At TPC, we have developed a unique mark-down service that optimises price and cadence and achieves maximum sell-through and margin. Typically our service generates +5% sell-through and +18% more cash margin by trading at +11% average selling price. It leverages data science and AI to deliver a level of detail and agility not possible using the usual manual approaches. Trading decisions can be overlaid, but they must be driven and validated by hard data. Our service is already making mark-down the star performer for retailers like White Stuff.
