    🚨 Hospitality vacancies have dropped below 100,000 for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, but they still remain higher than 2019 levels. According to the Office for National Statistics, there are currently 98,000 vacancies in the food service and accommodation sectors, slightly above the 93,000 vacancies recorded before the pandemic. Additionally, wages in the sector have risen by 4% over the past year. This development has been welcomed by UKHospitality, which is urging the government to support recruitment efforts. Chief Executive Kate Nicholls OBE said: “As a sector we’re continuing to drive down vacancies, but the government can make that easier in the budget.     📢 UKHospitality urges action on business rates relief. According to the trade body, hospitality operators could see their bills quadruple if business rates relief isn't extended in the upcoming Autumn Budget. Without the 75% discount (up to £110,000) for hospitality businesses, a local pub could see a £11,000 increase in rates, a town centre restaurant might face £30,000 or more, and a seaside hotel could experience a £40,000 spike in costs. UKHospitality is calling on Chancellor Rachel Reeves to use her first Budget since Labour’s election win to introduce a permanent, lower business rates multiplier for the hospitality sector, offering vital financial relief.     What’s your take on kiosks in retail and restaurants? 📱 Our Managing Director, Scott Muncaster, has been featured in The Telegraph discussing the rise of self-service kiosks in hospitality, and why, despite some rollbacks within the supermarket sector, restaurant brands like Popeyes Louisiana Chicken UK, Bill's Restaurants, and McDonald's are using the technology to mitigate the effects of the changing hospitality recruitment market. 🍽️ Scott shared that hospitality's labour and skills shortage has driven restaurants to adopt kiosks, and explained how businesses, particularly QSRs (quick service restaurants), see the vast benefits of the technology: “The labour and skills shortage is certainly having a big impact on the uptake of kiosks in the restaurant sector. Unfortunately, there is a lack of skilled hospitality staff, and those that do fit the bill are in such high demand that most businesses are struggling to source and retain them." Further to the article, Scott shared some additional thoughts on the widespread adoption of technology within restaurants, and how they fit in to different hospitality settings: 🗣️ "QSRs were obviously the first to adopt the kiosk model, and in those types of settings kiosks do make the most sense. However, we are starting to see the technology spill over into casual dining as well. Research we conducted in 2023 uncovered that 62% of the British public would consider trying a fully robotic restaurant experience and 56% would consider an AI or automated self-service system such as kiosks. In fact, one in 10 Brits even said they would be happy to visit a fully automated fine dining restaurant.     Today is the final day of Baby Loss Awareness Week, a time to acknowledge and support those who have experienced the loss of a baby. It’s a moment to reflect, offer kindness, and remind each other that no one has to go through this alone. This evening, Tuesday October 15th, people around the world will join a 'Wave of Light' by lighting a candle to remember the babies who are no longer with us.
