    🚨 The hype around AI in recruitment has many recruiters investing in new tools because it promises efficiency. But let’s be clear: simply adding AI to your tech stack doesn't guarantee long-term hiring success. AI struggles to select top entry-level candidates for several reasons: 1️⃣ Limited experience: Entry-level candidates often lack professional history, making it hard for AI to evaluate potential. 2️⃣ Keyword focus: AI can miss strong candidates who don’t use the exact keywords. 3️⃣ Soft skills & commitment: AI struggles to assess qualities like adaptability, commitment, and long-term growth potential. 4️⃣ Non-linear paths: Diverse experiences or education may be overlooked by AI in favor of a more traditional background. 5️⃣ Bias: Historical hiring data used by AI can create biases that overlook candidates from diverse backgrounds.     I am really happy to say that that Berkeley Group won the ‘Apprenticeship Initiative of the Year’ award at the London Construction Awards 2024! A lot of you will know that we made changes to our recruitment process last year to improve social mobility, increase diversity, and reduce unconscious bias. We did this by eliminating CVs and introducing an anonymised application process, focusing on eligibility rather than background. Collaborating with ThriveMap, we designed a realistic, online job assessment to give candidates a better understanding of Berkeley Group and to evaluate candidates on their ability to perform job-related tasks. The judges praised our apprenticeship programme for the inclusive approach to selecting apprentices. They noted that “Berkeley Group is leading the way in levelling the playing field, by not using CVs to assess talent and removing any bias from the selection process. This improved the number of successful diverse candidates selected for apprenticeships.” We are continually looking to improve the process further and learn from our experiences but I am very proud of what we have achieved so far!
