Hills Helicopters expands while working alongside Todd Engineering   Todd Engineering is delighted to support Hills Helicopters, a premier manufacturer of bespoke helicopters, with their recent facility upgrade.     This local customer has moved to an expanded site, where we relocated an oven previously purchased from us and added specialized installations to enhance their production capabilities. At the core of the new facility is the Poseidon spray booth, a high performance solution tailored for all of Hills Helicopters’ precision needs.   Featuring a raised floor design for optimal airflow, full downdraught extraction for superior finishes, and Eco+ modes to reduce energy consumption, the Poseidon booth provides an efficient and sustainable approach to meet the demands of their production.   Additionally, a dedicated paint mixing room was installed to streamline their workflow, allowing for precise colour matching and easy access to essential tools. An exciting addition to Hills Helicopters’ new facility is a purpose- built temperature-controlled composite room. This fit-out is essential for maintaining the integrity of specialized components in helicopter manufacturing, providing a stable environment that ensures high quality standards for critical materials.   Mark, Production Director at Hills Helicopters, commented on the installation: “Working with Todd Engineering has been fantastic. A long-standing customer of Todd Engineering, Angus MacKinnon previously operated an external Olympian spray booth at their original site. With a desire to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact, owner Stuart was inspired to incorporate Todd Engineering’s innovative Zeus all-electric spray booths after seeing their impressive performance at another facility.   The new setup includes two Zeus full downdraught spray booths. A standout feature of the Zeus technology is its far infrared curing system, which cures paint at a molecular level, allowing for quicker, more energy-efficient drying without raising panel temperatures significantly. This method improves throughput while conserving energy, making it ideal for high-performance operations like Angus MacKinnon’s. Alongside the Zeus booths, the facility also houses a dedicated paint mixing room and a high-performance compressor, creating a seamless workflow that optimizes productivity and ensures high-quality finishes with minimal environmental impact.   Stuart shared his enthusiasm about the project: “The new site required full refurbishment prior to moving in, this demanded considerable time and effort from our management team. All installation aspects relating to the booths, a compliance paint mixing room, compressed air systems and extraction were managed seamlessly by the Todd Engineering team, this very well managed installation was greatly appreciated. Their technology enables us to achieve our goals while reducing our carbon footprint.
