Delighted to have joined the Tomatopians today at the Diwali Mela at Phoenix Park in Wolverhampton. Tomato Energy were main stage sponsor and it was my treat to address attendees on behalf of my Community Manager colleague, Soni Grewal. Speaking to the press earlier, Soni said: As a Wolverhampton-based business with a community-first ethos, we're delighted to be sponsoring the Wolverhampton Diwali Mela 2024. At Tomato, we're working with local people to bring locally generated renewable energy to serve our community for generations to come. Nothing fills us with more joy than to see communities coming together to celebrate at these special events and bring us positive hope for the future.” Three cheers to Wayne Scott-Fox, Tomato’s charming and top-notch Sales Manager, and his team, for their outstanding, as ever, support. Hats off also to the multi-talented dancer and choreographer Roshni Pink and to the MC, Raj Sharma for their excellent coordination. Of the army of politicians in Wolverhampton, most visible throughout the event were local Labour councillors Sally Green and Ben Evans. The 4pm – 8.30pm event featured performers Prem Chamikila, Jodie Dancers, Arun Verma, Mr Tejinder and many more. Fabulous opening of the event with a Ganesh hymn, as per tradition, by Jagdish Kumar. Spectacular ‘Dhol Baaje’ dance by cousins Tanisha and Anvi Jeer, both aged 13, supported by their teacher, Snelly, from Gujrati Association Wolverhampton. Ditto, by university student Taaranjot Panesar and her teenage dance teammates from Birmingham-based Sitaare Dance, established earlier this year. The event also received support from the Indian Multicultural Society, Shri Krishan Mandir, Gurudwara Sikh Council & Gujrati Association Wolverhampton. Thanks also to Events Coordinator Bethany Hazlehurst from Wolverhampton City Council for her tireless efforts behind the scenes. Were you also at this event? Your thoughts? #energy #lights #Diwali #communities #diversity #EDI #Wolverhampton #WestMidlands #sustainable

Nominated for The Green Community Award, sponsored by Tomato Energy is Reading Bike Kitchen! A not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) run entirely by volunteers has a mission to empower the Reading community by ensuring that cycling is accessible to all. They achieve this by providing low-cost bicycle repairs, in addition to bicycle rehoming and bicycle maintenance sessions, said their nominator. For more than 10 years, RBK has recommissioned and sold hundreds of donated bicycles, providing new life into what might otherwise be discarded,” they added. They “welcome bicycles in all conditions, recognising that even the bicycles unfit for cycling still hold value.” Skilled volunteers salvage and repurpose components from tyres to chains, brakes to saddles, a practice which supports the thousands of bicycle repairs they perform annually and keeps costs at a minimum for customers. They also host free bicycle maintenance sessions to give people the knowledge and confidence to maintain their own bicycle. Being able to carry out safety checks and repair punctures will ensure safe cycling and the longevity of your bicycle, say the company. Their efforts have not only saved countless resources but have also nurtured a more environmentally conscious community, said the nominator, who added they were determined to continue fostering a culture of active transportation in Reading, one bicycle at a time.
