🏡 150 affordable homes handed over in Leigh and Wigan 🏡 Transforming unused brownfield sites in Leigh and Wigan into nearly 150 homes, all available for affordable rent, is part of our commitment to address housing demand across the north west. Furnace Court in Leigh, made up of 78 apartments and nine bungalows for over 55s, has been completed in a £20 million scheme. In addition, Frog Lane in Wigan is the final phase of a £12.5 million development that brings 60 two and three-bedroom houses to the region. Torus Group Chief Executive, Steve Coffey, said: “The borough of Wigan is an important growth and investment area for us with six schemes delivered or underway in the past 12 months. “We have made a long-term commitment to build at scale to address housing demand and create communities local people are proud of.” Councillor Susan Gambles, cabinet portfolio holder for housing and welfare, said: “It is great to see these homes completed and ready for people to move in; bringing brownfield land back to life and creating much-needed affordable homes in our borough.” Read the full story on our website: https://lnkd.in/dW2rRGnZ Homes England Casey Caddick Construction Limited

We couldn’t be more proud of #TeamTorus On New Year's Day, significant flooding hit our communities, impacting hundreds of our tenant's homes. Torus colleagues from across the region jumped into action, working around the clock to find alternative accommodation for our tenants. Paul Warburton, Group Housing Director, said: “Our frontline and back office teams have been working in the affected communities since New Year’s Day, putting in long shifts well into the night and over the weekend with extra staff drafted in from Liverpool and St Helens to help tenants as best we could. “It has been all hands on deck with our Chief Executive driving the minibus back and forth to take people from their homes to their temporary accommodation and going to supermarkets to buy them food.” Steve Coffey, Torus Group Chief Executive, said: “I was impressed by our teams' swift and selfless response across the Group. I was really enthused, heartened and humbled in many ways. Their determination to prioritise our tenants' needs over their own exemplifies the core values and 'DNA' of what Torus Group is about.” Our teams will continue to provide one-to-one support for all tenants impacted by the flooding. From a 100-year-old World War 1 memorial hospital to homes for affordable rent 🏡 Take a look at how the Newton-in-Makerfield War Memorial Hospital, which first opened in memory of First World War soldiers, has been transformed into homes for affordable rent in our website article. We've also created 30 new apartments using similar materials to blend with the original building, which closed its doors in 2015. We welcomed the Mayor of St Helens, Cllr Jeanette Banks, and local councillors to officially open the site, which has been renamed Collingwood Court. https://lnkd.in/gz73jkxh #affordablehousing #newtonlewillows

Spinnaker House’s History 🏡 Spinnaker House Extra Care scheme, part of our £25 million investment in Rock Ferry, Birkenhead, opened its doors last week but the scheme is filled with nods towards the area’s history. In the 1920s, the former Rock Ferry High School opened its doors. It continued to serve children up until 2011 when, following a merge with Park High School, it became derelict. A century after it first opened, the site of Rock Ferry High School has been transformed to give people aged 55+ a safe place to enjoy the later years of life. Throughout the scheme, which is home to 102 apartments, you will find nods to the local community’s nautical heritage including wave-style windows, marine-themed interiors and artwork of Cammell Laird. There’s even a brass diver’s helmet on display! In memory of Walter Smith - former Rock Ferry councillor and Wirral Mayor - the new access road has been named Walter Smith Way.
