Everyone truly felt like they could freely share their thoughts, opinions and insights with their peers. A few key moments so far: 📈 Sally Henry giving us that all important industry data - guests will want more value for their money, that’s for sure! (See picture for key insights) 💰”The industry is ripe for disrupters” - Simon Lehmann lead the discussion on the investment landscape ✨”People are forgetting to mention the positive side of things” - a great takeaway from the over tourism vs under tourism discussion 👉 “We need to be a united voice” - great words from Fiona Campbell when it comes to navigating and future proofing your business within a more regulated STR industry 🤖 “AI is an enabler but not something that can take over. My experience at the VRMA International event in Phoenix: 1. The questions Touch Stay is still around? 🔥 Yes, absolutely! You weren’t hacked into pieces and dissolved? 💪 We’re too tough to be eaten. What’s next for Touch Stay? ⚡ You know I love to drop hints along with bombs, so here you go: 💥 The very first guidebook where your guests can now book again directly within your Touch Stay guide, no need to direct them back to your website We have features in development that will literally blow your mind. Touch Stay is not a minimum viable product. Oh, we’re robust, baby. In just a few weeks, we celebrate 10 years. We’re a product that goes deep, we’re expanding wider, and we’re unbelievably strong. We do what we say we do, plus a bunch more because we’re behind in telling you everything. 2. The laughter By the end we couldn’t stop laughing. It was the perfect beginning. There was a point of over-dramatic-nearly-singing, role play examples on using persuasive stories with your guests, with some improv comedy slipped in towards the end. Because if I had told you that you would be standing in the front performing stories with improv comedy by the end of the session, would you have stepped foot into the boot camp? I’m deeply proud of my boot camp participants for their participation in each storytelling activity as I gently moved them from stories at their seat to quick stories on stage to performing in character. Yep, they Conquered Storytelling. 3. The hugs There was not a single handshake all week, only hugs. Even those I met for the first time, there was a hug. Was it weird? Not at all. Because the introduction from a mutual friend made it feel as greeting another friend. Miles Chew wins the best hug award for the week. 4. The transparency Tuesday’s panel of leaders who’ve recently (in the last 6 months) bought or sold a company went deep into the emotions of selling, the mistakes made when buying too fast, and the crucial importance of culture match for teams. I asked my panel to be real and transparent, sharing the human side of passing and receiving the leadership baton in a merger or acquisition, and they delivered. Thank you Patryk, Vonda, Yair, Andy. 5. The passion You couldn’t take two steps without colliding with it. You were surrounded by passion for hospitality, for serving guests, and for helping lodging professionals to learn and grow. Look at who you met at the event: people who understand how much a 4 star review is a punch to your gut, people who struggle with the conversations with their homeowners on lower rates and occupancy due to the supply increases, people who love hospitality. Just. Like. You. Take this long post that’s turned into a bit of a soap box from me and go deeper with your community and your network. And at the next event, come find me for your Rock Star badge.
