The Toyota Prius’s headline-making return to the UK market has been given added impact with another significant honour: the all-new model has been named Best Plug-in Hybrid in the Carbuyer Awards. In making its decision, Carbuyer recognised that for many drivers today, buying a plug-in hybrid makes more sense than an all-electric vehicle – an opinion that supports Toyota’s multipath technology strategy for delivering sustained and sustainable emissions reductions. But it isn’t just Toyota’s market-leading technology that sealed Prius’s success, as Carbuyer Editor Paul Barker explained: “The Toyota Prius has been transformed with space-age styling and a better driving experience than ever before, so it’s no longer a car you pick just with your head. “It’s still a hybrid, but now a plug-in with a larger battery for an electric-only range of up to 53 miles. With 223bhp from its petrol and electric motors, it’s also far more spirited than before. Don’t blindly buy an EV without considering a hybrid like the Prius first – for some buyers, it will make even more sense.” #Toyota #Hybrid #PHEV #Automotive

Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK (TMUK) has hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a state-of-the-art anaerobic digester at its engine plant in Deeside, North Wales (TMUK-D). Construction will start on the new waste-to-energy plant next month and when complete will supply TMUK-D with green electricity and gas directly via underground cabling and piping, replacing the current grid power supply. The £282 million privately funded venture has been conceived by D SPV, ABRDN and PWC and is being built by bio construct. The plant will be able to handle around 180,000 tonnes of waste a year, converting this into biomethane by anaerobic digestion. This is a natural process in which bacteria break down the waste matter, releasing biomethane which is captured, processed and delivered by a pipeline directly to the engine plant. This will replace the current natural gas supply, avoiding emissions of around 2900 tonnes of CO2 per year. Compost is a byproduct of the process and this will be given to local farmers, supporting the development of a circular economy in the local area. The plant will be able to end the use of fossil fuel in its processes and serve as a model for sustainable manufacturing within Toyota. Toyota’s Deeside facility has a long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability, having already achieved zero waste to landfill and being powered by renewable electricity. This latest investment furthers Toyota’s commitment to achieving global carbon neutrality by 2050, with Deeside at the forefront of this mission. #toyota #manufacturing #automotive

Groundbreaking Ceremony to celebrate the start of works on Toyota’s new Anaerobic Digester at TMUK’s Deeside Engine Plant -        Toyota Deeside holds significant event on journey towards zero carbon -        An AD (Anaerobic Digester) will supply TMUK-D with 100% Biomethane and 100% electricity generated from waste from Q4 2025 -        The biomethane will avoid the emissions of 2,900 tonnes of CO2 per year Deeside, UK – October 8, 2024 – Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK is proud to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a state-of-the-art anaerobic digester plant at the Toyota engine manufacturing facility based in Deeside, North Wales (UK) TMUK-D. This pivotal event on Toyota’s journey towards carbon zero, takes place on October 8, 2024, and marks the beginning of a significant project that will enable the Deeside plant to be at the forefront of carbon-zero manufacturing globally. The new waste to energy plant conceived and financed by D SPV, PWC and ABRDN and built by Bio Construct, will be situated next to the Engine Plant and construction will start next month on the £282 million privately funded venture. The waste to energy plant will supply TMUK-D with green electricity directly via an underground cable, replacing the current grid electricity supply. The waste to energy plant will take around 180,000 tonnes of waste each year and convert it to biomethane in a process called anaerobic digestion. This is a natural process where bacteria break down the waste and release biomethane, which is captured, processed and delivered by a pipeline directly to the engine plant. This biomethane will replace the natural gas supply avoiding the emissions of 2,900 tonnes of CO2 each year. As a by-product compost is produced which will be given to local farmers supporting the adoption of a circular economy in the local area. The Deeside facility, known for producing high-quality engines for Toyota vehicles, is set to lead the way in environmental innovation with this project. The new plant will not only allow the facility to stop the use of fossil fuel in its processes but will also serve as a model for sustainable manufacturing practices within Toyota. #toyota #sustainability
