Today marks the start of London Fashion Week and this year the spotlight is on second-hand fashion. For the past 25 years we've been on a mission to make second-hand the most normal choice over new. Now with 65% of the population wearing something second-hand, we want to make that 100%. Ahead of fashion week, we took to Portobello Market Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea with the Offtrend team SCREENSHOT Media to share our Closet Clear-out Challenge with the public and to find out why more people are choosing to wear second-hand. #Traid #ClosetClearOutChallenge #PickClickCollect #LondonFashionWeek #SecondhandSeptember Hemingway Design Jack Hemingway Lizzie Hughes (D’Arcy) Jenny Houghton

Last week we launched our biggest campaign to date; Traid's Closet Clear-out Challenge. We're on a mission to achieve 250,000 garment donations this September to help us to transform fashion for the better and fund our global projects to support garment workers, their families and communities, enabling a future of change. Hear from our fantastic supporters including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sharon Horgan, Sabrina Grant, Jim and Nancy Moir, Patrick Grant, Erin O’Connor, Gilles Peterson, Michelle Dockery and Caryn Franklin about why they are donating and supporting our campaign this month. From October, you’ll be able to see our campaign results come to life across all Traid stores, where our customers and community will be able find all the incredible items donated from our generous celebrity supporters and customers. With the potential for 250,000 quality garments available to purchase, there’s sure to be something for everyone! At Traid we believe that your wardrobe has the power to change lives. That's why this September we're calling on YOU to join Traid's Closet Clear-out Challenge and help us to achieve our goal of generating 250,000 garment donations this month. Did you know every second, the equivalent of a rubbish truck of textiles is buried or burned and 30% of the UK’s unwanted clothes end up in landfill? That’s around one billion garments burned or buried each year = £140 million worth of clothes. That's why we're challenging the UK to clear out their closets and do good. We have also asked a host of well known faces including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sharon Horgan, Sabrina Grant, Jim and Nancy Moir, Patrick Grant, Erin O’Connor, Gilles Peterson, Michelle Dockery and Caryn Franklin to donate their clothes and help us spread the word. All donations help fund our global partner projects supporting garment workers, their families, and communities. Want to join the challenge? All you have to do is Pick - Click - Collect. Pick your clothes, click to donate, and let Traid collect. Let's transform fashion for the better, one wardrobe at a time! Our 2024 global projects 🌍️: Providing care for the children of garment workers Since 2013, we have funded the incredible work of Nagorik Uddyog to establish two daycare centres and two drop-in centres for the children of garment working mothers in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Over a decade later, we are proud to continue supporting this vital work and this year we have committed £71,925 to continue the centres’ work of providing good quality care, education, rights support, food and health checks for 180 children. Earlier this year we sat down with Joyeeta Hossain, the Project Coordinator at Nagorik Uddyog, to find out more about the positive impact of this Traid funded project which to date has cared for over 2000 children. Our 2024 global projects 🌍️: Expanding Benin’s organic cotton sector Since 2009 we have funded the incredible work of OBEPAB and PAN UK to establish Benin's organic cotton sector. Fifteen years later this project has grown to become one of the largest organic cotton projects in Africa. Together with our project partners we have empowered over 6,205 farmers to make the move to grow pesticide-free crops where over 4,475 farmers are certified organic cotton growers. We are excited to continue supporting this good work and this year we have committed £336,332 of funding improve the incomes, health and soil quality for thousands of organic cotton farmers in Benin to move towards an organic future 🌱 Find out more about this project: https://lnkd.in/edXttJvf 📸 1: Alougba, an organic cotton farmer in Benin.
