About us

Transforma Insights is a research firm focused on the world of Digital Transformation. Led by seasoned technology industry analysts Transforma Insights provides advice, recommendations and decision support tools for organisations seeking to understand how new technologies will change the markets in which they operate. To address the implications of the technology-driven change, often referred to as Digital Transformation (DX), we examine the intersection of three inter-related areas: New Technologies (which comprises a dozen technology families including concepts such as IoT, AI and distributed ledger), Transformational Use Cases, and Enterprise Change Management. In order to support our clients’ as they navigate this intersection of these three areas, we provide a set of research tools. The Best Practice & Vendor Selection Database offers unrivalled information on current and historic DX deployments, comprising thousands of Case Studies providing would-be adopters with critical understanding of project prioritisation, best practice, key success factors, and the leading vendors with which they should be working. The Database links seamlessly to our new Vendor Connect platform, a mechanism for connecting technology vendors and would-be technology adopters. Based on our detailed understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of supporting vendors, we provide competitive benchmarks in the form of our Vendor Peer Benchmarking. These tools help vendors understand how they are positioned relative to their peers in these emerging markets. Our TAM Forecasts are quantitative guides to the market opportunity, covering each of twelve technology families, looking at hundreds of use cases across 20 vertical sectors and covering 200 countries. Finally, our Technology Insight Reports provide a qualitative guide to the dynamics and impact of the twelve technology families upon which we focus. These are updated annually.

  • Our recent report 'A diverse landscape of AIoT chipset vendors is seeking to differentiate in fragmented IoT markets' https://lnkd.in/e3i7mV8i discusses the leading players in the Edge AI and AIoT chipset space. The rapid growth of AIoT devices with diverse processing needs along with the proliferation of innovative chip designs is leading to the emergence of optimised edge AI and AIoT chipsets, used across various applications like natural language processing, computer vision, anomaly detection, and predictive maintenance. Such machine learning algorithms on edge devices are often required to operate at much lower levels of power consumption than equivalent algorithms running on servers or in data centres, due to limitations of availability of power. • Double-edged sword: drones in sports: Hey sports fans! With the climax of the NFL season due to take place on Sunday with Super Bowl LVIII, it’s good to consider, as we at Transforma Insights often do, the technological angle. Last year’s event reached a viewership of more than 123 million (the most-watched programme in US broadcast history). There’s every chance that this year’s clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will break that record. The clamour for more and better in-game video footage has led to an increase in the use of drones. At the same time, this year’s event will use a fleet of drones for security surveillance (see here: https://lnkd.in/edYPcKt8) alongside the FAA imposing a “No Drone Zone” around the Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, providing a restricted zone within 30 miles of the event (see here: https://lnkd.in/gnCtA7x4). The prominence of drones in the thinking of Superbowl organisers is a reflection of their increasing importance in sports, whether it be for security, fan engagement, or performance analysis. All of these are critical areas are addressed in the new Transforma Insights report which looks at the use of emerging disruptive digital technologies in Sports. • Transforma Insights' recent report 'Road Traffic Monitoring & Control: Implementing 310 million connected devices by 2033 to reduce congestion and simplify toll payments' https://lnkd.in/einya-fr provides Transforma Insights’ views on the IoT market associated with Road Traffic Monitoring & Control, including road tolling systems, traffic enforcement cameras, and connected traffic signals and signs. Traffic management is one of the major challenges faced by cities due to overcrowding, increasing numbers of daily commuters, outdated road networks and increasing vehicle ownership. Cities have started using CCTV footage to retrieve vehicle-related data and accordingly manage traffic, as well as to suggest improvements in the infrastructure. Traffic lights and road signs are also being connected to control traffic and inform drivers with the necessary information in real time, including speed limits, traffic jams, and potential hazards on the road ahead. IoT is also being used to simplify payments at toll booths by allowing automated tolling and alternative payment methods, enabling drivers to reduce the time and emissions caused by going from one place to another and opening new sources of revenue. Because the Internet of Things won't analyse itself.

Here's an article with my perspectives on CES. It's probably not a typical CES write up as it certainly doesn't seek to cover the newest tech or the latest announcements. And there's barely anything consumer in it. Maybe it’s because I spent the whole week camped out in the IoT Infrastructure zone with lots of one-on-one meetings. In this article I talk about what the world of IoT seemed to be talking about at CES 2025. In it I’m entirely guilty of talking about only my own narrow prism of topics. I talk certification/security, oiling the wheels of IoT, AI, global trade, a lack of love for IoT, and a bunch more things besides.

  • Who are the key players in the AI processor value chain? https://lnkd.in/evF9_fMq The chip market is dominated by the US, China, and Taiwan, each of which control significant aspects of supply chains for semiconductor chips. The US leads in EDA and design, while Taiwanese companies excel in the manufacturing of chips. China and South Korea hold a smaller, yet significant share in chip manufacturing. Japan and Taiwan dominate the supply of high-quality silicon wafers for AI chip production. In terms of specialised machineries for design imprinting, Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography (ASML), the Netherlands based company is the sole provider of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines, crucial for imprinting circuitry designs onto silicon wafers. Overall, the chip industry is driven by "American-East Asian" companies, supplying the most powerful chips worldwide. In this report we have focused on the categories of vendor that are most relevant to AI, which are Chip IP, Enabling Chip IP and Fabrication with one section of this report dedicated to each category. Our report by Paras Sharma examines the market: 'AI Chipsets: cloud AI drives scale, AIoT drives innovation' https://lnkd.in/evF9_fMq (subscription required).

  • Supporters of Liverpool Football Club have much to celebrate this season. The Reds currently lead the Premier League and this week celebrated topping the group stages of the Champion’s League. Liverpool have been on a roll, but what has driven the improvement? Of course, the arrival of Arne Slot could be one reason. But we at Transforma Insights, of course, can’t help looking at the technology dimension! One aspect which stands out is the team’s dependence on Dr. Ian Graham who worked as the club’s director of research. His focus on data analytics could well have had an impact. He encapsulated it all in How to Win the Premier League: The Inside Story of Football’s Data Revolution (2024), which primarily explains how data analysis is changing decision-making processes in football. This highlights the importance of the use of disruptive digital technologies in sports. Just like Dr. Graham revolutionised football through data analytics, various emerging digital technologies are also being used now to improve both players’ performance and fans’ experience across various other sports. A recent report from Transforma Insights examines ten key ‘domains of change’ whereby new technology is being applied in the sporting realm. This includes health and performance management, recruitment and talent engagement, and match analysis, all of which will no doubt be high on Dr Graham’s list of considerations. It also considers commercial elements such as operational efficiencies, fan engagement, advertising and gambling, as well as adjacent areas such as security and journalism/content creation.
