Today marks 60 years of the Forth Road Bridge! 🌉 Opened in 1964, the iconic crossing was the first of its kind in the UK, and still serves as a vital transport link for the people of Scotland. Find out more ➡️ bit.ly/47fWbkc   Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop joined the local community this morning, and said: “It has been fantastic to be part of the celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the Forth Road Bridge alongside the members of the communities on both sides of the Forth. “The Forth Road Bridge clearly plays a different role now than it did sixty years ago, but there is no doubt that it still has an important job as a public transport corridor as well as providing important resilience to the trunk road network. I look forward to it continuing these roles for years to come.” David Bishop, South East Unit Bridges Manager for operating company BEAR Scotland, said: “The bridge has worked hard over the years, connecting communities in Fife and Lothian while carrying a significantly greater weight and volume of traffic than it was originally designed for. We look forward to ensuring it continues to provide good service for decades to come.” The events continue this weekend, with a fleet of vintage buses from Dunfermline Transport Museum offering free trips across the Forth Road Bridge on Saturday 7 September.

Today Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop announces that procurement will begin to replace ScotRail's High Speed Intercity Trains. Led by ScotRail on behalf of Transport Scotland, it will seek a replacement for the High Speed Train (HST) fleet which operates on its InterCity routes between Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Inverness. Edinburgh is breaking records for the number of people travelling by bike. A growing number of cycle routes in Edinburgh has encouraged more and more people to travel by bike. The majority of these journeys are during commuting times, showing that many people are cycling for their everyday journeys. Cycling to work will be benefitting those cyclists by helping them clear their head. It will also be helping the planet as people will be leaving their cars at home more often and reducing their emissions.
