What if the approach to innovation within the railways is not what you expected? 🎧 https://lnkd.in/er_RyRri In contrast to the collective public opinion, I know the UK's railways can be innovative and progressive, especially after collaborating closely with brilliant people from the railway community in the Clean Futures program and Future Labs, such as BCIMO, Network Rail, London North Eastern Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express, Southeastern Railway and Connected Places Catapult. They are friendly and supportive, with a will to push innovation forwards and quickly to meet urgent needs. There is, of course, the tendency of risk aversion and caution when it comes to new ideas, and this is rightly so with the safety concerns and caution necessary when it comes to the railways and transport. These factors can cause timelines to be long, and permissions can hinder progress for SMEs. However, when it comes to reliable railways, enhancing performance and meeting urgent strategic needs, our UK railways can make it happen. As we transition to GBR, there is definitely a lot of work to be done, but with that comes an exciting opportunity to develop a more reliable, sustainable future for the UK's railways. Treeva won the People’s Choice Award at the Future Labs Expo! 🏆 After an incredible 12-week journey, showcasing alongside eight other exciting start-ups, we were recognised by the rail community for our commitment to providing reliable renewable energy for the railways. This award is a result of the enthusiasm, hard work, and innovative spirit of our team, mentors, and partners. A heartfelt thank you to Northern, London North Eastern Railway, Southeastern Railway and TransPennine Express, and the entire L Marks team for their invaluable guidance and support throughout this transformative programme. Insights and encouragement from our mentors and the rail community helped us refine our approach for the railways, tackle key challenges including safety and regulation, and develop a first-of-a-kind energy solution specifically designed for the railways. Congratulations to all the inspiring start-ups who participated, and it is great to keep in touch. To everyone who voted for us, thank you for believing in our mission. Nine tech start-ups showcased their groundbreaking ideas to rail industry leaders at the Future Labs EXPO.🚆 Hosted by Lara Lewington, the event highlighted solutions developed during a 12-week accelerator program. Finalists were chosen from nearly 500 applicants and received mentorship from experts in publicly-owned DfT Operator Limited train companies: London North Eastern Railway, Southeastern Railway, TransPennine Express and us. This guidance helped them tackle key challenges in customer experience, performance improvement, operational excellence, and talent development. Two finalists received special recognition at Future Labs EXPO: 🏆 PotentialU which aids frontline leaders in understanding team strengths and areas for growth won the Collaboration Award. 🏆 Treeva, known for capturing renewable energy from turbulent airflow was voted as ‘People’s Choice.’ Richard Harrison, Chief Financial Officer of DfT Operator Limited, said: "Future Labs is a great example of how operators are working together to drive forward innovation to improve performance and provide a better experience for customers." The nine finalists were; Chatai, Cleancore Intelligence, 1Huddle, Cognition24, Zing Data, Treeva, Moonbility, PotentialU, Iqast, and Cognition24. Today marks week 10 and almost the end of Future Labs! On this occasion, we are thrilled to feature Treeva Treeva powers infrastructure on roads and railways by generating energy from the airflow of passing transport. This reliable and renewable power significantly reduces costs and emissions. 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐬. I learned about the Future Labs program through a contact at the Manchester Innovation Agency, who shared the details. We pitched the solution as a wildcard entry because the railways have among the highest energy bills in the UK and increasing risks of blackouts and brownouts. There is a lot of trackside land and remote infrastructure which is expensive to power, and the DOHL involved also have committed sustainability efforts. Treeva can address these concerns and help the railways further reduce emissions using reliable renewable energy, so we decided to pitch. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲? The ultimate benefit is helping to create a more sustainable and energy-resilient railway future by bringing Treeva to the forefront of railway innovation. A new five-year innovation partnership between Network Rail and Connected Places Catapult will enable new technologies to be introduced to our railways faster. 💡🚉     The partnership will see the Catapult provide support to the rail operator as it seeks to increase the identification and adoption of promising new technologies, such as finding ways to improve the climate resilience of rail infrastructure and using digital technology to spot lineside problems before they cause delays.    Read more at the link in the comments 👇    #Rail #Railways #Innovation #Technology
