A good first meeting with University of York School for Business and Society Business students undertaking their Business Consultancy module, which we are pleased to be supporting through a real world consulting project. Georgia L. took the team through the Harmful Algal Blooms research project she is leading, which has been kindly sponsored by WWF-UK, and the student team are getting to grips with the complex industry stakeholder environment around UK aquaculture and marine businesses which face increasing pressure from more frequent HABs events. The university offers consultancy experience to students each year from various faculties and our experience of previous (and current) groups has been really positive, we'd recommend it to any #york based businesses.

We've had a great response rate so far on the call for contributions to our research into participatory science approaches, as part of the Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment programme. We have now set dates for the final two workshops in this series, which build on the understanding we have gained of the types of tools, methods and the various different actors involved in ecosystem assessment in England. We are now looking to dig deeper into the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches, and to understand what is actually driving change (positive and negative) in the health of ecosystems, to ensure that assessment efforts are targeted. If you are active in carrying out, coordinating or analysing the results of habitat assessment of related activity, and would like to attend either of the following sessions, please let us know! - Workshop 3, Wednesday 13th March 3pm - 4.30pm - Strengths and Weaknesses of different habitat monitoring approaches - Workshop 4, Thursday 14th March 3pm - 4.30pm - Pressures and Interventions driving habitat change In the Strengths and Weaknesses session, we will also be sharing our findings so far on approaches, tools and methods in ecosystem assessment, and summarising the insights from previous workshops.

Tricky sustainability challenge? You don't have to worry about it alone! We’ll give you 40 minutes of our time for free to discuss your sustainability, environmental or circular economy project - even if you don’t plan to buy any services from us. You could use this time to: - Get free advice on stakeholders to involve (we'll make introductions if we can) - Understand the landscape surrounding a project or initiative (be that regulatory, policy, R&D, etc) - Help formulate the framework for a tender for a project, or conduct soft market test activity - Discuss market approaches for new sustainability ideas - Discuss one of our service areas in more detail - Discuss a specific sustainability or environmental topic to improve your understanding of it https://lnkd.in/esDDqE_V

Many thanks to the organisers of the City of York Council York Green Business Forum and the hosts at Spark York C.I.C. Great to talk about waste and ways to avoid it, reduce it, re-use it or otherwise get value out of it. As ever, great to partner with the Biorenewables Development Centre and present the work we did for York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub on mapping the waste systems, movements, types and weights in North Yorkshire and the potential valorisation opportunities that might present, which you can read about (in brief) at the link below: https://lnkd.in/dgwYAMAZ

Call for natural capital and ecosystem community science participants! We are running an engagement activity for the Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment programme (NCEA) on behalf of Natural England. NCEA partners recognise that community science is a major contributor of valued data to our understanding of the state of natural capital in the UK. If you are a practitioner in the field of natural capital and ecosystem assessment, biodiversity monitoring, species and habitats data recording - OR if you are involved in commissioning, coordinating or using the outputs from  community science projects in these fields - we’d be interested in your perspectives and potentially involvement in a series of cross-disciplinary workshops. Please comment below or contact georgia.leigh@treligan.com if you’d like to find out more.

We LOVE food, both on a personal and professional level. Food systems are a big part of our transition to net zero (and many other sustainability agenda areas), and as we heard from The Food Foundation last week, the food sector needs more urgency and momentum to keep pace with other sectors decarbonisation. The team have done a lot of work with food retailers, manufacturers and hospitality companies in the past, and a lot of the projects we're bidding for right now are 'foody'. Last year we worked on one of the most interesting, for NHS England, which turned out to become one of the most complex because of the additional constraints and requirements for patient feeding. And we finally got around to our write-up! https://lnkd.in/dVmEV443

It's #cop28! This is a great opportunity, as it always is every year. Opportunity for a potential turning point for the world, and an opportunity to...generate a lot of COP related marketing content! We can take a lot of inspiration from a global event like COP, but the breadth and scope can be a bit overwhelming. It does, however, provide a good backdrop for 'closer to home' events such as today's panel discussion on the last 12 months of progress for major retailers and Out of Home businesses in the shift towards a more healthy and sustainable diet. The Food Foundation released their State of the Nation's Food Industry report this week, and in todays briefing we heard who's doing well, who's not doing so well, and what needs to change in government policy and corporate strategy for the food sector to catch up with other industry areas in generating momentum towards net zero. Some great resources from WWF in the session, links in the comments below.
