Providing education, care, therapy, medical support and independence training to young people with complex disabilities
About us
Treloar Trust offers outstanding teaching, learning, professional care, therapy, advice and guidance so that every individual can achieve and work towards a future that is as independent as possible. Treloar School and Treloar College are run by Treloar Trust. We offer around 170 students, aged 2 to 25 years, a specialist environment where learning takes place alongside therapy and care. Our students are physically-disabled with complex needs . Mainstream schools and colleges cannot provide the support they need to achieve their goals. Many of the young people at Treloar’s require support throughout the day and night - over half of our students stay in one of our five residential houses. Residential provision offers huge opportunities to develop independent living skills and enjoy social life beyond the academic timetable. Our students experience greater independence and develop confidence working alongside trained support staff and engaging with their peers. Treloar Trust also offers a range of Outreach Services to the wider disabled community and hires out campus facilities to local sports and activity groups and to other disability charities for residential stays during the holidays. Treloar’s is a registered charity providing bespoke support to students and their families. We must raise £2 million a year to deliver the specialist services our students deserve to help them achieve their goals.

For anyone who missed it, Treloar College students appeared on BBC News South Today earlier this week. The Watercress Line invited our students to help them design a fully accessible train carriage for the heritage railway line. College students from the 'Let Me In' project were joined by a BBC News South Today film crew who followed them throughout the day while they compiled their accessibility audit report, and interviewed them about improving access to the railway and the mission behind 'Let Me In'. Jamie who made the film, has shared it and you can catch up on our YouTube channel. https://lnkd.in/dTpJviw5

Last term, Ben and Thomas, 2 hard-working Treloar College students, joined a pharmaceutical company Aspire for work experience sessions, attending once a week over the summer term. Both students have a keen interest in IT, with a very good understanding of a range of software programmes. Their main task with Aspire was transferring data across from one system to another, maintaining accuracy throughout and saving the data correctly. Thomas said: “Working with the Aspire team helped me develop my work skills and to figure out what type of work I would like to do in the future.” A big thank you to ASPIRE PHARMA for giving Ben and Thomas this opportunity: it’s been an invaluable experience for them and has helped develop their work skills and shape their future aspirations around careers and courses of study.
