  • OCTOBER IS WILL MONTH! Creating a Will allows you to look after your loved ones and ensures your wishes are met. We asked Berrys Solicitors (https://lnkd.in/ebSiQsXk) where to store a Will and who keeps a record of it? "Once you have signed your Will, your ‘original’ signed Will must be kept in a secure place away from potential harm or mishaps. Normally, once you have signed your Will, your Solicitor will ask you if you wish to keep the original document yourself at home or would prefer the original document to be kept by the solicitors for their safekeeping. Most solicitor firms will offer to store your original Will. We recommend that you do this for reasons of safekeeping and ease of mind. At Berrys Solicitors we securely store your Will free of charge." • OCTOBER IS WILL MONTH! During October we're working with local solicitors who are offering you the opportunity to create your Will, for free, in return for a suggested donation to Trinity Hospice of £100 for a single Will and £150 for a joint Will. We asked Rebecca at Addies Solicitors (https://lnkd.in/erdhpYiZ) to explain a little bit about the kind of gifts that can be left in a Will, she said: "There are three main types of gifts that can be left in a Will; a specific legacy, pecuniary legacy and residuary gift. A specific legacy is a gift of a particular item or group of items such as jewellery or other personal possessions, whereas a pecuniary legacy is a gift of a sum of money. A residuary gift is a gift of everything that is left over after payment of the funeral, any debts, administration and testamentary expenses." We're so grateful to the team at Addies for supporting our Will month. • OCTOBER IS WILL MONTH! The wonderful team at Inghams Solicitors (www.inghams-law.co.uk) are committed supporters of Trinity Hospice. When we asked Fiona from Inghams when and how to update an existing Will, she said: 'It is always advisable to have a Will in place, no matter what your circumstances. It is normally recommended that you review your Will every 7-8 years to make sure it still reflects your wishes with regard to your estate. An appointment to discuss preparing or amending a Will usually only takes about half an hour and a second appointment, of about 10 – 15 mins, is required for the Will to be signed, once approved. By preparing a Will with a solicitor, it will ensure that the Will is correctly worded and it will do what you want it to do. I find that the most common comment at the end of a Will appointment is “Well that was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be"'. • OCTOBER IS WILL MONTH! This year we have 6 wonderful local solicitors taking part in Will month and throughout the month they'll be answering some Frequently Asked Questions about Wills for us. Barker Booth & Eastwood Limited t/a BBE Law (www.bbelaw.co.uk) have supported Trinity Hospice for many years. We asked them what is an executor & what are their responsibilities? An executor is the person(s) legally responsible for carrying out the instructions of the deceased. This can involve sorting out their estate i.e. property, money, investments and personal possessions in accordance with the provisions of the Will. It can also involve making funeral arrangements. To book your appointment with BBE Law call 01253 362 500 If you would like to view our full list of participating solicitors you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/ee6uMiwY

Compassion and Care. That’s exactly what is needed when someone’s world gets turned upside down, and exactly what Trinity Hospice, Blackpool provide. Last month, my friend’s Dad was bravely battling stage 4 cancer, and Trinity Hospice were wonderful in the final days of his life. At the Manchester Half Marathon yesterday, I proudly wore their charity vest as a tribute to Geoff, and also a thank you to the Hospice for the incredible impact they have on the lives of families in the most overwhelmingly challenging of times. If you’d like to find out more about Trinity Hospice, and maybe even make a donation to support their work, it would be wonderful!

  • "Mum didn’t get the chance to talk about what she wanted when she’d gone. It meant me and my family – my dad, brother and sister – had to make decisions in the hope it’s what she would have wanted. We struggled through, but constantly asked ourselves ‘is this what mum would want?’ It was hard. It has made us realise the importance of sharing your wishes, so your family isn’t left making decisions they’re not sure of. Having a Will is so important." Sue's story shows just how vital an up to date Will is. This October we're giving you the chance to make or amend your Will free of charge , in return for a donation to Trinity Hospice. • For the first time, on average more money is spent in the UK’s hospice shops, like our Kirkham book shop, than hospices receive from government. This means vital hospice care relies on the generosity of the public. Something needs to change. #HospiceCareWeek is shining a light on these injustices, and our friends at Hospice UK are meeting policy makers to fight for fairer funding for hospice care.
