In summary: FARC Peace negotiations + opportunities from organized crime = a vacuum for other rebel group (ELN) + new & existing splinter criminal groups. Community unrest (Ecopetrol's, Gibraltar Plant & explosion on Bi Centenary pipeline) = growing influence of this group - which could also move into FARC vacuum. Regulatory insecurity (recent Hupecol license rejection). The message seems to be "it ain't over till it's over" & follow due process (including risk analysis) prior to entry.

This article summarises a logical, planned, apolitical, approach to a government (and a historically Socialist one at that) in managing its most abundant natural resource towards a renewable horizon - but for the benefit of its people and not its party agenda. The messages for other countries to learn from is in this paragraph “What the Directorate assured is that the Norwegian continental shelf remains a “competitive” oil and gas region thanks to vast remaining resources, developed infrastructure and supportive government policies. It said a petroleum tax reform implemented 2020 to help encourage investment amid the coronavirus pandemic has already ushered in a permitting boom”.

Following on from my China EV post yesterday, this article highlights a direct and positive impact of the surge in popularity of these vehicles - indirectly, again, including less air pollution.

This is good news. From Oil Price newsletter: “Electric Cars Gradually Take Over the Chinese Market. For the first time on record, Chinese consumers bought more new energy vehicles (NEVs) than gasoline ones, tallying 878,000 units vs 840,000 units, as buyers benefit from generous government subsidies and traction in the car-hailing market.” A situation to be closely studied by the rest of the world in terms of lessons learned and continuous improvement opportunities. What is interesting though is that this country is still one of the world’s top Oil & Gas consumers, so will this uplift lead to lower consumption? Lower benzene emissions at street levels absolutely, but the wider longer term impacts are still unknown

Oil & Politics - despite sanctions, Russian gas (and $$$ to fund their war) is still flooding in to the EU. France, Spain & The Netherlands are the biggest takers. Whilst I appreciate you can’t turn the taps off just like that, it’s still taken many years to cut-off the Russian supply and hit them where it hurts. Put your money where your mouth is…
