TEnt MD, Jan Tucker sharing an independent article on the status of Oil & Gas (O&G) investment in Colombia. In summary: FARC Peace negotiations + opportunities from organized crime = a vacuum for other rebel group (ELN) + new & existing splinter criminal groups. Community unrest (Ecopetrol's, Gibraltar Plant & explosion on Bi Centenary pipeline) = growing influence of this group - which could also move into FARC vacuum. Regulatory insecurity (recent Hupecol license rejection). The message seems to be "it ain't over till it's over" & follow due process (including risk analysis) prior to entry.

Oil & Politics. We won’t support you joining NATO (hot potato, damages reputation and provocation with very close neighbours), but we will support you joining the EU - as long as you keep supplying us with gas. Classic.

I have posted on this reaction several times. It’s interesting to note the positive reference to Norways’ tax regime too - something I also posted. It’s an obvious killing the golden goose scenario, and will encourage the operators to cut back on expenditure in renewables to save costs - at least in the uk. Oil & Politics can be a double edged sword…

Is Chinas hydrocarbon sun really setting whilst that of Asia and India is on the rise? Is it really due to increasing home grown alternative energy supply, or a (never to be officially declared) economic slump? Either way, the demand for oil and gas is directly impacted by these nations alone.

This article summarises a logical, planned, apolitical, approach to a government (and a historically Socialist one at that) in managing its most abundant natural resource towards a renewable horizon - but for the benefit of its people and not its party agenda. The messages for other countries to learn from is in this paragraph “What the Directorate assured is that the Norwegian continental shelf remains a “competitive” oil and gas region thanks to vast remaining resources, developed infrastructure and supportive government policies. It said a petroleum tax reform implemented 2020 to help encourage investment amid the coronavirus pandemic has already ushered in a permitting boom”.
