A massive thank you to our generous client, Ian Turkington, for kindly opening his house for the Open House Festival this weekend and taking the time to talk to visitors along with Matthew Whittaker from our studio. Architecture and gardens are best experienced in person. Thanks to all those who visited—we were overwhelmed by how far some people had travelled to see the project. It was a packed house, with lots of talking and exchanging ideas! Thanks to all at Open City for organising such an inspiring programme! We can't wait to do it all again next year! #openhouse #dontmoveimprove #DMI24 #NLA #OpenCity #openhouse #homes #houseinterior #homeinterior #flitchcottage #whittakerparsonsstudio #whittakerparsons #londonterracehouse #houserenovation #reusereducerecycle

We are delighted to announce the opening of Victory Community Park in Walworth. This million pound project for the London Borough of Southwark, transforms this local park into a vibrant, inclusive space for all to enjoy. The refurbishment proposals, which were developed through extensive engagement with local people, include upgraded sports and play facilities together with new lawn, structure planting and the creation of wildflower meadows. Councillor Portia Mwangangye, Cabinet Member for Parks and Open Spaces said; “The upgrade is a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to shape the future of their local area. We are proud of the work that has been done here and look forward to seeing the park become a thriving centre of activity for the East Walworth community.”

Springfield Park is looking green and lush! We’re thrilled to hear the local community’s positive feedback for the park and play area design on site last week. “It is a well thought out design and we love coming here with our children” The play area has become a popular destination with those from all parts of Liverpool making a special effort to visit. After years of hard work, it is music to our ears to know that the community is enjoying their new park! The next sections to finish are the promenade path network, wildflower seeding and tree planting during the upcoming tree planting season. Watch this new greenspace evolve! #newneighbourhoodpark #naturalplay #peopleplacenature #natureconnection

Turkington Martin are proud announce that Gascoigne Park has been shortlisted in the Public Spaces category for the New London Awards 2024.  Gascoigne Park has a unique character that draws on the juxtaposition of nature and industry that characterises the Barking townscape and responds to the landscape of the River Roding. The park supports and encourages social engagement, play, exercise and quiet contemplation at the heart of the ambitious Gascoigne Estate regeneration project. Turkington Martin engaged with local residents and stakeholders, which helped inform key decisions as to the function of the park. The overriding message was to create a park with a distinct local identity and character, that is flexible and can support the changing needs of the community now and in the future.

We are delighted to share that the detail planning application for West Beach Newhaven was recently approved by Lewes District Council unanimously. The scheme comprises a destination restaurant, community facilities, outdoor gym, extensive children’s play and splash pad, sympathetically integrated within a sensitive landscape setting close to an SSSI and Scheduled Ancient Monument.  Turkington Martin worked closely with Morgan Carn Architects, Bakerwell Ltd Environmental Services and ECE Planning to achieve a harmonious solution on behalf of Lewes District Council. Inspiration for the landscape design drew reference from the form, patterns and textures of the site’s natural surroundings. The result is a series of layers extending across the site from the Old Battery in the east to the retained vegetated shingle and grassland to the west. An underlying expression of elegant wave forms are reflected in the path layout, built features and the new and retained ecological areas.

TM were proud to see the Accelerate 2024 student exhibition hosted The Bartlett UCL. It has been rewarding to engage with a new generation of confident young people exploring the built environment profession. The joint sessions TM hosted with Cullinan Studio introduced the students to Landscape Architecture, modelling and shaping the environment around them. We got an insight into the students experiences at our sessions below:- ‘my favourite part of the programme was the different workshops experiencing things I have never experience before and being more creative – it was definitely the greatest decision I have made.’ ‘With Accelerate I have been able to understand architecture in a way that’s never possible before – I have developed new interpretation and ideas and not more aware of the intricate details and dimensions’ ‘As I reflect on my journey through Accelerate nothing but warm memories fill my mind. Warmth is the essence of Accelerate. Whether that be the golden yellow colour scheme of the programme or the calm ambience of the workshops… The broad range of materials we had the chance to use as well as the insightful discussion has allowed me to develop the mindset of an architect.… the impact is evident in my personal development in and out of school.’ We admire these students for taking this opportunity and using their own time to explore new skills. We hope that programmes like Accelerate can encourage a new diversity of younger students to enter the profession.

We are pleased to announce that 80-100 Gwynne Road has been approved by the London Borough of Wandsworth's planning committee. The project proposes the redevelopment of a retail warehouse on a brownfield site into apartments, with over 35% affordable housing, as well as employment space on the ground floor. The street level will feature a series of arched openings that reflect the local context, where the landscape is designed to enhance the setting of the building and improve the streetscape for pedestrians. There are two residents' gardens, one at podium level and one at roof level, which provide opportunities for residents to relax, play, and gather, as well as offering green views from the flats. #wandsworth #UREgroup #savills #terrapin #campbellreith #Irvineering #GRID #point2
