Want to find out more about our plans to restore and breathe new life into Keelmen’s Hospital, an iconic eighteenth-century almshouse in Newcastle-upon-Tyne? Next month, JDDK Architects will be sharing their designs with the local community. This FREE event is on the 12th of March at St. Mary's Heritage Centre in Gateshead, doors open at 530pm, with the talk starting at 6pm. While attendance is free, donations and membership to the Trust is encouraged to support this vital project. St Mary’s Heritage Centre, All Saints Church and the former Keelmans Hospital with Tyne and Wear Building Preservation Trust Absolutely beautiful and intriguing buildings being or been brought back into use!

Our first project to hit site at sunny Dunston Staiths. We're working with EDable Architecture , CK21 Ltd and Artis Consulting Ltd to provide a new home for Tyne and Wear Building Preservation Trust at Dunston Staiths. BCE NORTHERN LIMITED are our northern powerhouse delivering the project and we're delighted to get moving. The staiths birthed the keelmen who used to motor mighty loads of coal from here in the industrial boom and now are home to fascinating habitat in the rare salt marsh on the Gateshead Tyne. We're working with several collaborators at the moment to think about how we better work with these important ecologically industrial multi-species sites of post industry.

Last month, the team went to visit Keelmen's Hospital (some of us for the first time!) to have a look around the building and monitor current works like brick samples being taken for analysis, and the search for a well that appears on early plans for the courtyard area. A magnificent view of Gateshead,Newcastle and the Tyne from the top of St Mary's Heritage Center tower. Thanks to Government funding and skillfull work by Stone Technical we can now safely climb to carry out maintenance and enjoy the views.

Happy Birthday to the The National Lottery Heritage Fund #nationallottery30 #thankstoyou. The Trust received its first grant in 1996 for Alderman Fenwick's House and it latest last month for Keelmen's Hospital both in Newcastle. Other projects include St Hilda's Pit Head, South Shields; Old Low Light, North Shields; and St Mary's Heritage Centre, Gateshead. #heritagedevelopmenttrusts
