What would you do with left over school shirts and shoes? 🤔 Whilst attending the Hertfordshire SME Business Awards I came across an incredible charity called No Floor No More CIC run by the wonderful Pia Honey. 💚 No Floor No More CIC is an award-winning St Albans based initiative, actively alleviating difficulties around council house refurbishment. Their emphasis is on policy change around the condition in which council houses are left in upon reissue. ✅ Their ultimate aim is to keep perfectly good items away from landfill/furnace and redirecting them to low income families, helping them to make their houses a home. To give you an idea, you'll see below shelves filled with brand new children's school shoes and perfectly kept (never worn) white shirts. So I'm calling for carpet fitters, furniture sellers, man and van businesses, estate agents, film studios and more to help widen their network of connections to help make a bigger difference. I'm someone that likes trying new things all the time 👀 Back in 2020 when we first started Twenty-Two I began working with a local woodworker. He asked me if I had ever built a table to which I said no. Within three days of working with him I was in his workshop, suited and booted making my first table. Now some might say that's "not really working" but I say these experiences bring me closer to my clients and wider network. So now it's time for me to learn something new again! 🤪 In 2024 I embarked on the Get On Board Programme to delve into the world of becoming a young trustee at One YMCA. This opened my eyes to the many ways local businesses, communities and individuals can do more to help each other and make a difference. A few months into this programme someone mentioned the chance to take part in some of the wider national and international YMCA events which of course, wanting to try something new, I jumped at the chance to do! I'm therefore excited to share that next week I will be flying out to the World YMCA's Accelerator Summit 2024 in Mombasa. 🙌🏽🎉 One thing we will be focusing on is Vision 2030 which empowers communities and young people worldwide to build a just, sustainable, equitable and inclusive world. 🌏💙 Some of the key objectives of the Summit are... 🌟 Fostering working partnerships uniting complementary strengths and skills to enhance the work YMCA do at the community, national and regional levels 🌟 Sharing innovations and youth led solutions 🌟 Offering futurist thinking to attract investment towards projects and initiatives that accelerate impact led change I'm so grateful to One YMCA and YMCA England & Wales for giving us the opportunity to learn from delegates across the YMCA world and I can't wait to share our experiences with you all soon.
