Having worked in a variety of IP firms, we have seen what works for clients and what doesn’t. This made us think that what should be improved can be improved. In their experience, this is what you’ll need to set up your own patent or trade mark firm: ➡ Your limited company ➡ IPReg registration ➡ Professional indemnity insurance ➡ Agreement with another firm/attorney to provide backup cover ➡ Business bank account ➡ Accountants and bookkeeper ➡ Case and document management system ➡ Time recordal/billing system ➡ Company website ➡ Company credit card and/or IPO/EPO/WIPO deposit accounts to pay official fees ➡ Someone to act before EUIPO (because you can’t do it yourself anymore) ➡ Office 365 and IT support ➡ Phone number and phone answering service ➡ Desk, computer, broadband (and probably a printer and a shredder) ➡ Good client/referrer contacts and the ability to bring in client work Or you could join Two IP as a consultant attorney and build your own IP practice with our full operational support.
