October is Tyre Safety Month in the UK and highlights the dangers of driving on uninflated, damaged, or worn-out tyres. Tyres are the one part of the vehicle that are always in contact with the road, so don’t forget to ‘ACT’ this Tyre Safety Month: Air Pressure. Condition. Tread depth. Air Pressure - Underinflated or overinflated tyres can affect handling, so having the right tyre pressure is vital to tyre safety. Correctly inflated tyres can increase cornering and stability, allows for shorter braking distances, and reduces the risk of burst tyres. A tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) can help avoid potential road accidents and tyre wear resulting from under-inflated tyres by notifying you of drops in tyre pressure before it leads to vehicle damage or road traffic accidents. Condition - You should also pay close attention to the condition of your tyres, and be on the lookout for any cuts, splits, or nicks in your tyres. Keep an eye out for any glass, nails or screws that might have become embedded in the tyre that could cause a puncture in the future, and make sure you check your spare tyre too. Tread depth - The other major tyre safety factor to consider is tyre tread depth. Tyre tread plays a crucial role in performance and safety during driving, providing grip so your vehicle can move forward and stay on the road in slippery conditions. It is recommended to use a precise measuring method such as a tyre depth gauge to monitor tyre tread depth regularly, making sure your tyre tread depth meets the legal minimum depth requirements for your country (1.6mm for the UK and EU). Tyresure offer high-quality TPMS and tyre pressure solutions for your business, from innovative TPMS sensors and diagnostic tools, to tyre tread gauges, valves, and other TPMS essentials such as consumables and service kits.
