I am a Director within the International Financial and Professional Risks team. My role involves broking, servicing client accounts as well as supporting my team with administrative tasks. What do you like most about working at Tysers? There is a nice atmosphere at Tysers. It has a strong sense of camaraderie and togetherness! How did you get into insurance? Like most, I fell into insurance after completing my history degree at university. My first job was in travel claims, my role has changed quite a bit since then! What is the technology product/application that is of most use to you? I think the Internet has been as impactful as the first agricultural and industrial revolutions before them. We take for granted the use of things like WhatsApp and internet banking on a day-to-day basis. If you could learn a new skill what would it be? Jiu Jitsu or an improvement on my language skills! Do you have a favourite quote? “You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. A few weeks ago the global IT outage that affected 8.5m computers around the world caused widespread disruption to businesses, healthcare systems, transport and individuals. This incident occurred when security company Crowdstrike sent out a corrupted software update to its huge number of customers. Although it has since been confirmed by Crowdstrike’s CEO this was not a cyber attack, the scale and impact of the outage has only further raised awareness of the damage that could arise in the wake of a real cyber attack. Cyber insurance is becoming an increasingly important consideration for businesses of all sizes, however in recent years insurers have become more cautious about underwriting cyber insurance policies as they try to minimise their exposure to risk and creating a ‘hard market’ for cyber insurance. This can make it more challenging for many businesses to secure coverage, but there are steps they can take to present a more favourable risk profile to insurers. Ep.2 Mike the CEO and AI So how did it go and what did I learn: 1) My Elvis costume and fake American accent were more effective than I expected so the audience only worked out it was me about midway through. That was a surprise. 2) The speech went down a treat and received laughs and applause in all the right places. Thanks, ChatGPT 3) Singing rather than speaking some of the Elvis lyrics in the speech caught everyone, including me ☺️ by surprise but I and the audience seemed to emerge unscathed from the experience. 4) With ChatGPT, like with everything in business, it’s all about the questions you pose and the phrasing of the request. Get the question correct and the answer becomes easy. 5) (Wo)man + machine is an incredible combination. I believe my final speech was better than I would have produced without ChatGPT or, at the very least, I produced it far more quickly than if I had written it without ChatGPT assistance. 6) Next time I’ll change out of my costume before joining the after-party. Elvis in central Adelaide at 3amis not for the faint-hearted! In summary, my first interaction with ChatGPT was enough for me to be convinced about how I can use it in my everyday job but also to appreciate that it is, like many of the tools we utilise in business life, another tool to master. A tool that requires me to build new skills so that I can properly leverage it. If you haven’t yet tried it then please do so, but remember that Mastery doesn’t happen in a day. Be patient and spend time thinking of the specific question you’re trying to answer. The richer your request, the more valuable the response. I’ll cover my next AI challenge in Ep.2 to follow soon…
