This week I had the joy of going back to my old stomping grounds at Kingston University to help provide career guidance, reassurance and advice to the next generation of scientists. Thank you to Dr. Baljit Thatti for this fun opportunity and I'm excited to see the evolution of science through the inspired minds you are teaching.

November is recognised as COPD Awareness Month. A crucial time to shed light on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which affects approximately 280+ million people worldwide and results in over 3 million deaths each year. Interestingly, despite being a leading cause of death globally, many remain unaware of its symptoms and risk factors. COPD often goes undiagnosed; in some regions, up to 50% of individuals may not realise they have it. To celebrate this month and help show awareness, Ubichem is showcasing 2 investigational small molecule therapeutic drugs undergoing phase II clinical trials: Acumapimod and Mitiperstat. HAPPY BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH! Annually, approximately 2.3 million women worldwide are given the news they have breast cancer. For women, it is the most common form of cancer, averaging about 25% of all female cancer cases. This is an opportunity to promote the importance of early detection and available treatment options, as well as secure vital research funding. By prioritizing regular screenings and fostering awareness, we have the potential to reduce breast cancer mortality rates by approximately 30%. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against this disease. Happy World Mosquito Day!   On the 20th of August 1897, Sir Ronald Ross discovered Malaria was transmitted by the female Anopheles mosquito. Since then, scientists and health agencies have been pursuing new and innovative ways for the prevention of the mosquito borne diseases, still to this day.   Malaria continues to be considered a significant threat, claiming approximately 600,000 lives each year. This is largely because current preventative medications are unable to adapt to the mutagenic properties of the parasite.   This month, Ubichem are showcasing the drug substance Cabamiquine, which is depicted in Figure 1, along with its key starting materials for the synthesis of this drug substance, shown in Figure 2.   Ubichem collaborate with pharmaceutical CDMOs, CROs and CMOs providing custom synthesis solutions to the most challenging chemistries for small drug discovery.   We offer scalability ranging from: R&D (grammes), to pilot scale (5-10kg), batch processing (50-100kg) and commercial volumes (tonnage).   Samples for each key starting material are available at your request supported with full analytical data for your internal validation.
