It was an honour to welcome the Malaysian delegation to UCL Laws for an experts’ roundtable on the separation of functions between the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor on 10th March. Led by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law & Institutional Reform), this important discussion was facilitated by UCL Laws’ Global Centre for Democratic Constitutionalism (GCDC). Bringing together distinguished UK legal experts, including The Rt Hon Victoria Prentis KC and Sir Max Hill KCB KC, as well as leading academics, government officials, and representatives from the Malaysian Bar Council, the session provided comparative insights from the UK legal system to inform Malaysia’s potential institutional reform efforts. This dialogue forms part of an empirical study led by the Malaysian Government, gathering global best practices from the UK, Australia, and Canada. Such events highlight the importance of international collaboration in strengthening democratic governance and prosecutorial independence. https://lnkd.in/e53UxFQa
