Want to know SIMATIC ET 200AL in combination with IO-Link can significantly reduce your wiring efforts? Explore the application example below to see how you can achieve this for yourself. The IO-Link at a field level makes for much easier integration of all components and provides maximum transparency and efficiency with regard to the final meters of the process – thus ensuring seamless communication. In this application, a SIMATIC S7-1500 control is used as an IO controller. The ET 200AL interface module and the CM 4xIO link are installed in the field and connected to the IO controller via PROFINET. To operate the machine on-site, the SIRIUS ACT control devices are used, which are connected via IO-Link to the ET 200AL. These IO-Link electronics modules are fitted into the housings of the control devices, which convert the signals of the control devices to IO-Link. The electronic module in the upper housing has 8 inputs/outputs that are freely programmable via the PCT (Port Configuration Tool). The default setting of 6 inputs and 2 outputs is suitable for this application example. A permission control for the operation of the machine is realized with the SIRIUS ACT ID key switch. In addition to the permission level, each ID key has a unique identification number. This identification number is read out when the ID key is placed in the user program and is saved in a data block along with a timestamp. TECH SUPPORT SPOTLIGHT 💡 It's busier than ever in our technical support team and to give you a better understanding of exactly what our 9 technical support engineers get up to on day-to-day basis, we wanted to share another recent project that Darren Drinkwater has been working on. Recently, a valued Underwoods customer asked for a demonstration of basic motion control functionality in TIA Portal. To cater to this, Darren set up the Siemens Sinamics V90 drive with a Profinet Encoder connected to a Simatic S7-1200 PLC using the motion control blocks in TIA Portal. The blocks he showcased included MC_Power, MC_Reset, MC_Home, MC_Halt, MC_MoveAbsolute, and MC_MoveRelative. Additionally, he integrated a 12" Unified Basic panel HMI, enabling seamless control over position adjustments while monitoring the PLC code online.
