🔎 Spotlight on impactful UK grant making: "It changes lives, it's that simple." Yesterday, we visited volunteers and staff at All Saints Action Network (ASAN) to learn about the work they've been doing with local people to improve confidence and wellbeing through volunteering, a year on from the launch of our Know Your Neighbourhood Fund. We were fortunate to be joined by Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth, Stephanie Peacock MP, and our funding partners at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. ASAN is one of 12 community organisations being supported by Heart of England Community Foundation in the West Midlands, and is among many organisations throughout England to be funded by our network as part of the three-year programme, designed to increase volunteering and reduce loneliness. Speaking about the reasons behind volunteering at the Wolverhampton project, ASAN's funded Community Engagement and Volunteering Officer, Nick, said: "What we're finding is that the reasons why people are lonely and isolated are really varied; it could be that they've finished work, it could be there's a family breakdown or they could have mental health issues. Encouraging volunteering is about getting to know what people are interested in and building relationships." Paul, who works at ASAN, said: "We take people on, we give everybody a chance that comes to us. It changes lives, it's that simple." CEO Shobha added: "People are often very withdrawn and feel uncomfortable at the start. The funding, because it's been spread over a long period of time, has enabled us to develop relationships and see people grow as a consequence of that. People feel valued, that they're actually contributing to something important." #SocialImpact #CommunityFunding #CommunityFoundations
About us
About UK Community Foundations (UKCF) We are the membership organisation of 47 accredited community foundations across the UK and 3 international members, which collectively distribute over £170 million in grants every year to charities, community groups and individuals. At UKCF, we collaborate with the UK Government, corporations, trusts and foundations, and other donors on a national scale to positively impact local lives through place-based philanthropy. In addition to this, we provide advice, learning and resources that support our members to deliver the highest standards of service to communities. What are community foundations? Community foundations come in all shapes and sizes, but what they all have in a common is a commitment to making a difference to people’s lives in the places they serve. Community foundations invest in local people and organisations tackling the biggest issues facing communities today and supporting some of society’s most disadvantaged people. They provide help and advice to those who want to give at the heart of their communities, both now and in the long term. How? By matching donors and partners to important local causes through a variety of different giving schemes including legacy giving, donor advised funds, pooled funds, fundraising for local appeals and campaigns, and endowment funds.

Huge thanks to Sarasin & Partners LLP for hosting UK Community Foundations annual chairs day. Discussions were around strategy and the importance of collaboration and relationships. How can a person's legacy gifting transform their local community? This week marks the start of #RememberACharity Week, a time to learn about the powerful impact that legacy gifting can have on communities across the UK. Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the most meaningful ways to give back to causes that have made a difference in your life. Through legacy gifting, you can ensure your support continues to touch lives long after you’re gone. At UK Community Foundations, we are privileged to witness the long-term benefits that legacy donations bring to local communities. These gifts provide vital resources for grassroots organisations and projects that make a real difference. Whether it’s funding local health initiatives, supporting youth programmes or fostering community cohesion, legacy donations are an investment for the future of our communities. Why consider legacy gifting? 🌟 A lasting impact: your legacy gift is a way to leave behind something that outlives you, benefiting generations to come. 🌟 Support local causes: through your community foundation, your gift can directly support the area where you live, ensuring your legacy is felt locally. 🌟A personal connection: you can tailor your legacy gift to support causes that align with your values, whether in education, healthcare, the arts or environmental sustainability. During this week, we invite you to learn more about how you can leave a gift that keeps on giving. Find out more about legacy gifting and how you can make a difference, whether directly or through your financial adviser: 👇 https://lnkd.in/eC72ACA2 #LegacyGifting #LeaveALegacy #LocalImpact #CommunityFoundations

"Professional advice on philanthropic giving appears to increase both the number of wealthy individuals who give and the amount that they donate, with very clear positive implications for the country's charities and the new government's priorities." However, in a new report published by Pro Bono Economics, just 8% of those surveyed said they currently receive philanthropy advice. 'Mission Give: The potential of better philanthropy advice' (📖 https://lnkd.in/ezzK2sng) highlights the gaps in knowledge of wealth professionals and their clients and points to the incredible opportunity to share intel between #philanthropy professionals and #wealth advisers to support the wealthiest to give, and give effectively. #CommunityFoundations have dedicated philanthropy advisers who work with wealth professionals and their clients to provide unbiased, expert information about philanthropic giving. This advice ranges from identifying charities that provide an important local impact, to helping maximise the tax benefits of giving, to exploring the types of giving that work best for both the client and the causes they care about. Community foundations are set up all over the UK and love to talk about #philanthropy! Get in touch: https://lnkd.in/dCjjWWS
