Twenty years ago, an idea became a reality – CPI was born ✨ We started with two people, one desk in the North East of England, and a clear vision for a better future. Nigel Perry MBE FREng, our former CEO and current board member, was one of those two people there on day one. He sat down with our current CEO, Frank Millar, at The Catalyst to revisit those early days, tell us the story of how CPI came to be, and reminisce over an incredible 20 years. At CPI, we're proud to be part of the conversation on how innovation, investment, and access to talent can unlock the potential of scale-ups. By focusing on pro-innovation regulation and harnessing national assets, we can power the next generation of businesses to drive long-term sustainable growth in the UK economy. We’re excited to be featured as a case study in the CBI (Confederation of British Industry)’s new #GrowthEngines playbook, which sets out key recommendations for enabling businesses to scale. Find out more below ⬇️
The UK has a world-leading start-up ecosystem. Now is the time for the government to deliver the conditions for these businesses to scale and be the Growth Engines the economy needs. Growth Engines is the CBI's new scale-up playbook which sets out recommendations the government can implement to support businesses to scale. Developed with members at various stages of scaling, the playbook spans four areas: pro-innovation regulation, unleashing investment, harnessing our national assets and access to the best talent. As Rain Newton-Smith says in her op-ed in today's City AM: “With bright spots emerging in our economy and a new government geared towards change, this can and must be the time for growth: a moment when we turn from the short-term shock-absorption of recent years to the long-term, sustainable growth we so badly need. Seizing that moment starts with looking not just to the businesses of today, but also those of tomorrow: the scale-ups that will be the engines of our future growth and the source of innovations that will help solve the problems of tomorrow.” #GrowthEngines Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/482kwrz

Earlier this month, we held the second annual RNA Vaccines and Therapeutics Conference in London 🧬 The 2-day conference featured some of the brightest minds in the global RNA community who are accelerating RNA technology within academia and industry, including Kate Jeffrey from Moderna, Robin Shattock from Imperial College London, and Dr. Simon Unthan from BioNTech SE. Following several exciting presentations and discussions, there was a consensus that: ✅ RNA technology has seen great progress over the last year, including work on RNA-LNP stability. ✅ The RNA community needs to leverage networks and collaborations to unlock the potential of this technology. ✅ RNA technology has the potential to revolutionise personalised medicines. We’re proud to be at the forefront of advancing RNA vaccines and therapeutics through our RNA Centre of Excellence and building a skilled workforce to deliver this technology through our RNA Training Academy. Welcoming today's launch of the government's plans for an Industrial Strategy our CEO, Katherine Bennett CBE said: “The UK needs a bold and ambitious industrial strategy. With the stability it provides, businesses can harness innovation to drive productivity, scale-up supply chains, transform their approach to skills and compete on a global stage. “The UK manufacturing sector is the engine behind our net zero ambitions and sustainable economic growth; the Green Paper, with its recognition of advanced manufacturing, will provide an invaluable framework for the next ten years. “This roadmap and the subsequent industrial strategy will enable the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, with the support of Innovate UK, to accelerate the industrial transformation the UK needs to attract major investment, secure high-value jobs and build national resilience.” #industrialstrategy #industrialpolicy Department for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds MP Clare Barclay

Exciting announcement from Department for Science, Innovation and Technology today. A new Regulatory Innovation Office. At CPI we work to help bring new innovations to market faster across Pharma, MedTech, future foods, agritech and sustainable materials. We have found through our engagements with industry and other stakeholders that regulatory challenges are one of the major blockers to innovation getting to market. This is a great step forward by DSIT and CPI is very happy to be part of the UK's innovation ecosystem to help companies to get their products to market faster and ultimately help grow the UK economy, improve sustainability and improve health for all.
We want to bring new technology to the public faster. The Regulatory Innovation Office will: ✔ Update regulation to drive innovation ✔ Speed up approvals to bring new products to market ✔ Ensure regulatory bodies work together That's more innovation, jobs and a stronger economy.
