  • Two-thirds of women in prison report being victims of domestic abuse. Aliyah’s own experience of domestic abuse and criminal exploitation contributed to her doing time. But since her release, she started non-profit Daddyless Daughters to provide the support to young women that she desperately needed when she was young, but did not have. • Drug trafficking. Gang violence. Criminal Exploitation. Aliyah Ali’s life finally fell apart as a teenager when she was handed a prison sentence. Her time inside showed her how the prison system isn’t working for most women, with many fellow offenders being victims of crime themselves. After prison, Aliyah was motivated to make a change for herself, and other women just like her to live a life free of crime and make our streets safer. Director General CEO at HM Prison and Probation Service

It has been announced today that Dame Antonia Romeo, will be moving to the Home Office to be the new Permanent Secretary and I have been asked to take up the role of Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Justice UK (MoJ) on an interim basis. Many congratulations to Antonia, she has been a truly brilliant Permanent Secretary for us in the MoJ. I have had the pleasure and privilege of working for Antonia for a number of years and I am hugely grateful to her for all her guidance and support during that time. It has been an enormous honour and privilege for me to be CEO of HM Prison and Probation Service for the last two and a half years and I am delighted that Phil Copple will be taking over from me as interim CEO. Phil is an exceptional leader and I feel assured that HMPPS will be left in very capable hands. A huge and heartfelt personal thank you to everyone who works for HMPPS for the incredible work you do every day which goes largely unseen by the public but makes such an enormous difference to victims, communities and individuals. I am very proud of you all and I am pleased that I will still have the opportunity to play a role in overseeing and supporting the incredible work of the agency as the MoJ's Permanent Secretary.

  • 📈 The MoJ will boost funding for the LawtechUK programme. LawtechUK is a government-backed initiative to drive digital transformation in the legal services industry. • We’re building more prison places to help keep the public safe. Lord Timpson visited HMP Highpoint in Suffolk, where 700 new prison places will be built and fully operational by 2027. These places will make up three new house blocks, which will also include innovative workshops and teaching facilities, helping prisoners gain the skills they need to secure a job on release and turn away from crime, creating safer streets for everyone. The new places are part of the government’s efforts to deliver an extra 14,000 prison places by 2031. Extra places mean the most dangerous offenders can be sentenced to prison, helping ensure justice for victims. Read more about the new prison places at HMP Highpoint: https://lnkd.in/ebrGX95n
