UK Music's Chief Executive Tom Kiehl speaking on the importance of grassroots venues, rehearsal spaces and studios to the music industry's talent pipeline, and how we need more music teachers to ensure that all children have access to a music education. "Last year, music tourism spending increased by 21%, generating a total of 8 billion across local economies, a fantastic achievement. "It's worth remembering, however, that there wouldn't be any music without music creators. "Singers, songwriters, musicians, producers, sound technicians, and everyone else in our industry needs to learn their craft and hone their skills. "The opportunities for many artists are becoming increasingly squeezed with continued problems for music venues, studios and rehearsal spaces, and we need an army of new music teachers to help nurture our talent pipeline on which the music industry relies." UK Music Chief Executive Tom Kiehl appeared on BBC Radio 4 Today programme and BBC Radio 5 Live to discuss Oasis's significant move against ticket resale platforms. Over 50,000 tickets listed on secondary platforms will be cancelled, with Live Nation and SJM ensuring these tickets return to official channels at face value. As Tom explained on Radio 4: "There's been a lot of concern in the industry about resale above face value and Oasis and promoters were very clear that anything that was resold on a secondary site above face value would potentially invalidate the tickets. We're now seeing enforcement." This represents a major step forward in tackling unfair ticket resale practices and protecting music fans. We've just wrapped up an incredible few days at the Beyond the Music conference in Manchester, and what a conference it was! Our team was fully engaged in shaping the future of the UK music industry: Andy Edwards, our Director of Research and Analysis, led a fascinating panel on "The New Economic Frontier: Building The New Music Industry Paradigm" with industry leaders from MMF, BPI, TuneCore, and more. Dr Oliver Morris, our Director of Education & Skills, was busy inspiring the next generation of music industry professionals at the parallel Inspire careers conference. We joined forces with our members PPL, PRS for Music, and The Musicians' Union to provide valuable insights on music industry careers. We even caught an amazing showcase by our Music Academic Partnership member, Access Creative College!
