These powerful words from outgoing Energy UK Chief Executive and incoming Climate Change Committee Chief Executive Emma Pinchbeck at our 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 capture the scale of Britain's clean energy challenge — and the opportunity it presents. 🌍 Exciting Developments for Local Climate Action! The UK's Autumn Budget makes important steps for local climate leadership: ✅ Commitment to end short-term competitive funding pots ✅ Borrowing to invest in Local Clean Energy with the Local Power Plan ✅ £3.4bn for Warm Homes Plan ✅ £46mn to recruit new planning officers At UK100, we're encouraged by these investments that can accelerate economic growth and climate action. The Autumn budget is a chance to grow the economy through local climate action. This week the Chancellor can reset the relationship with local authorities and partner with them to deliver prosperity and clean energy across the UK. UK100 have three tests for the budget: 1. End the short term and complex competitive funding pots. End the uncertainty and help local leaders plan long term. 2. Properly resource Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs) so local leaders can map out the energy needs and potential in our communities and drive investment in towns and cities. 3. Ensure the Warms Homes Plan is funded and place-based, supporting households to reduce their bills and energy use. Last week, Cllr Claire Holland - Chair of London Councils, spoke at the UK100 Local Leaders: Clean Energy Superpower Summit - a high-profile event that brings together local leaders, policymakers, and energy experts.    She outlined how the net zero transition must be part of the response to the cost-of-living crisis, and how boroughs are already playing a crucial role working with residents, and driving forward energy decarbonisation projects to create jobs and lower bills.   She also spoke about the boroughs coming together through our Climate Programme to build the skills, data, partnerships, delivery models and financing needed to tackle climate change together whilst boosting our green supply chains, and ensuring more people are employed in good green jobs in London and across the UK. #UK100CleanEnergy #BeTheSolution

A new guide published today by Peers for the Planet & University of Exeter features contributions from world-leading climate scientists - to help UK local leaders understand and respond to the urgent climate challenges we are facing. It put the dangers and the solutions in clear and simple language - a fantastic resource for leaders fighting the rising tide of climate misinformation.

Really enjoyed this event - thank you Philip Glanville for the invitation - A definite thirst for delivery but not an oversimplification of the challenge.
