Today is #WorldMaritimeDay and the focus is on #SafetyFirst ⚠️ Safety at sea is so important and there are hundreds of pieces of advice we would share in this post if character limits didn't exist (attention spans were longer) so in support of the day we have decided to share one of the most simple but one of the most important sea survival tips: FLOAT TO LIVE ⭐ If you ever find yourself in cold water unexpectedly your instinct is often to swim or thrash, but with this comes the risk of inhaling water especially if it shocks you or causes you to gasp. Instead you should #FloatToLive Floating to live involves laying back into the water, to the point when your ears are submerged, spreading your arms and legs to help you remain stable, relaxing your body and your breathing and just ✨ f l o a t i n g ✨ This survival skill is one of the many taught as part of our STCW Basic Safety Training course, demonstrated by students in these pictures. Remember: your legs can dangle, we all float differently, and it is actually easier to float in sea water than a pool due to the salt content. Stay safe! 💙
