#OnThisDay in 2012 NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover landed on Aeolis Palus, inside the Gale crater on Mars. Originally a two year mission, Curiosity’s mission to study the Martian climate and geology has been extended indefinitely. Curiosity aims to answer questions of whether elected sites have ever offered environmental conditions favourable for life, and to undertake planetary habitability studies in preparation for human exploration. As of this week, Curiosity has been active on Mars for 4255 sols and driven almost 20 miles.
