About us
UNDO is a world-leading carbon dioxide removal project developer specialising in enhanced rock weathering. Enhanced weathering is a nature-based technology that permanently locks away CO₂ from the atmosphere. The geological process of weathering has happened naturally for millions of years, removing billions of tonnes of CO₂ over Earth's history. UNDO accelerates this natural process by spreading crushed silicate rock with a high reactive surface area onto agricultural land, where plants and microbes in the soil speed up the weathering process. The breakdown of the rock by CO₂ dissolved in rainwater releases nutrients and bicarbonates, which end up in the oceans as solid carbonate minerals, permanently removing CO₂. Part of Microsoft and Stripe’s Carbon Portfolios, UNDO is scaling operations in the UK, Australia and Canada. The rock, a by-product of the aggregate and mining industry, is given to local farmers for free and spread on agricultural land using existing infrastructure. In addition to permanent, rapid and scalable carbon removals, UNDO’s holistic partnership model delivers significant co-benefits such as improved soil health, ocean deacidification and increased profits for farming communities.

As businesses work towards achieving net zero emissions, it’s important to understand the roles of carbon offsetting and insetting. While both aim to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, they take different approaches and offer unique benefits. 🌱 Carbon Offsetting helps companies act by compensating for emissions outside their value chain. Through verified projects like reforestation or renewable energy, companies can balance emissions while planning longer-term sustainability efforts. 🔄 Carbon Insetting, on the other hand, works within a company’s value chain, embedding sustainability into operations. This approach delivers lasting environmental benefits and strengthens business resilience by addressing emissions directly. Some of the most effective climate strategies combine both offsetting for direct action with insetting for long-term impact. Together, these approaches allow businesses to reduce emissions, meet climate goals, and contribute to environmental and social progress. Enhanced rock weathering (ERW) is a science-backed approach that combines climate action with soil health benefits. Recent trials, including those highlighted in Scientific American, show how finely crushed silicate rock can transform agricultural practices. It’s wonderful to see Kirstine Skov, UNDO’s Research Lead, mentioned, touching on her peer-reviewed agronomy trials with Newcastle University (more on this in the link below). A huge thank you to Douglas Fox and the Scientific American team for featuring this exciting work, and to David J Beerling from the The University of Sheffield and Noah Planavsky from Yale University for their incredible contributions to advancing ERW research. Here are some of the real-world benefits for farmers and the climate highlighted in the article: 🌾 Higher yields → Trials in Illinois saw crop yields rise by 12–16% for corn and soy → UNDO’s UK trials found oat yields increased by 9–20% 🪨 Improved soil health → Reduced soil acidity improves nutrient absorption (e.g., phosphorus) → Vital minerals like calcium and magnesium are released, reducing reliance on synthetic fertilisers. 💨 Climate impact → Potential to remove billions of tonnes of CO₂ from the air every year → Runoff supports ocean health by reducing acidification Nature-based solutions like ERW are paving the way for a future where agriculture tackles emissions while enriching the soils we all depend on. 📖 Click the link below to read the full article. Last year, Lucy Jones, one of our field technicians, took on a bold challenge: helping to launch UNDO’s Canadian operations in Kingston, Ontario 🇨🇦 – the foundation of our largest deal with Microsoft. This project focused on advancing the science of enhanced rock weathering (ERW). From monitoring CO₂ fluxes and soil chemistry to setting up state-of-the-art labs like the “Carbon Lab” and the “Dracula Lab,” Lucy and the team collected vital data to support the scaling of ERW as a climate solution. The team worked through tough field conditions, adapted with innovative techniques, and collaborated with local communities to make it happen. 👉 Read Lucy’s blog to learn more about the science and teamwork behind our work in Canada. #CarbonRemoval #EnhancedRockWeathering #SustainableFarming #ClimateAction

Farmers are driving climate action. In partnership with Canadian Wollastonite, we’re using enhanced rock weathering (ERW) to remove CO₂ and improve soils on Ontario farms. Wollastonite is a calcium silicate mineral and it brings benefits to both agriculture and the planet: 🔬 Carbon removal: Wollastonite reacts with CO₂, forming stable carbonate minerals that store carbon for millennia. 🌱 Healthier soils: It enriches the soil with calcium and silicon, balancing pH, improving fertility, and supporting stronger crops. 📊 Scalable science: The combination of wollastonite’s fast-weathering properties and data from our deep measurement sites is advancing this pioneering climate technology, paving the way for larger-scale carbon removal. Through this partnership, farmers are turning fields into tools for lasting climate impact while strengthening their soils. It’s a practical step forward for agriculture and the planet.
