Today we stood in solidarity with London bus drivers who were marching to Transport for London in demand of safe and fair working conditions. Many drives are working through fatigue, a lack of toilet facilities and high temperatures and are calling for better measures to be put in place to protect their health and safety ✊. Like, comment and share if you support the drivers so TfL hear them loud and clear 👏 #unitetheunion #jobspayconditions #transportworkers #TFL

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust facilities and capital development division are facing 58% jobs cuts, sparking protest from workers 🚨 Under the trust's plans the in-house team covering facilities and capital development including roles such as fire safety, water quality, major projects, maintenance and minor construction work, will be reduced from 154 roles to just 64. To add insult to injury all the workers in the division will be required to reapply for their jobs, with many of the new posts being paid at a lower rate for principally the same work. The severe cuts would immediately jeopardise patient and staff safety as critical estates compliance services, such as fire safety, water quality monitoring and engineering assurance would see decades of institutional knowledge lost. Unite regional officer Tabusam Ahmed said: “These plans are bad news for workers, for patients and the local community. Rather than save money, it will result in NHS money disappearing into the pockets of spivs and privateers. The trust needs to drop its madcap scheme and return to the negotiating table to agree a sensible way forward while it contends with funding challenges.” #UnitetheUnion #Healthcare #NHS

With the budget announced, action to improve public services will be key to improving workers' quality of life AND fixing our broken economy. According to a survey of 500 business leaders by the Trades Union Congress (The TUC), more than half of businesses (59%) say staff have been forced to take time off in the last year because of problems accessing healthcare, transport, childcare or social care. Unite the Union general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The chancellor has inherited a broken economy that has suffocated our public services and led the UK to being the lowest investment economy in the G7. Having demanded change to the fiscal rules and opposed any return to austerity, we welcome the government’s decision to loosen the borrowing straitjacket and commit substantial new money for our public services." #UnitetheUnion #JobsPayCondtions #UKEconomy #PublicServices #TradesUnionCongress #Healthcare

Rt Hon Rachel Reeves has inherited a broken economy that has suffocated our public services and led the UK to being the lowest investment economy in the G7. Having demanded change to the fiscal rules and opposed austerity we welcome the government’s decision to loosen the borrowing straitjacket and commit substantial new money for our public services. Unite the Union General Secertary Sharon Graham said: “The government must now show the vision needed to use its increased borrowing power to invest immediately in our economic infrastructure to generate jobs. We will need concrete plans and a clear timeline for the fabled 650,000 green jobs. Workers in Grangemouth and the North Sea can’t afford to wait. While we welcome the chancellor’s intention to rule out austerity, the devil will be in the detail.” “The chancellor’s continued failure to ensure the super-rich pay their fair share is a misstep. The 50 richest families in Britain are worth £500 billion. A one per cent tax on the richest one per cent would create £25 billion. Black hole gone and vital money in to support and enhance the UK’s public services. It was disappointing that the decision to cut the winter fuel payment was not reversed. The government has tied itself in knots in picking the pockets of pensioners, cutting the winter fuel payment while the mega wealthy remain virtually untouched. That is unfair and simply wrong. This issue will not go away as winter approaches and Unite will be leading the challenge for it to be reversed."
