We then treat and deliver it to our customer's taps - around 1,500 million litres a day We also collect wastewater from our customers and surface water from roads and highways, treat it at our wastewater treatment works before returning it back safely to the environment. In order to do this we have: - 184 reservoirs - over 42,000 km of water pipes, from Cumbria to Cheshire - over 72,000 km of sewers - over 1,400 km of aqueducts - 100 water treatment works - 575 wastewater treatment works - 57,000 hectares of catchment land

As a part of scheme to improve water quality at Birkin Brook, we have installed two new tanks at Knutsford wastewater treatment works. With each tank weighing 2.5 tonnes and being over 4 metres in diameter, a unique solution to access the site was needed – what better than a twin rotor helicopter! As a thank you to the area while we carried out our work, we’ve donated to Tatton Park’s education programme, helping to fund workshops and providing support for transport costs to visiting schools. https://lnkd.in/ecZn6fFb #northwest #betterriversbetternorthwest #betterivers #innovation #helicopter #tattonpark #education #unitedutilities #knutsford #wastewater

Developer Day 2024!👏 Each year our Developer Services and Metering team bring together leading industry figures from the water and housing development sectors. Here, we showcase our commitment to keeping customers at the forefront of everything we do, improving consistency and solidifying our collaborative efforts. With over 400 delegates and 40 exhibitors, this year’s event was the most ambitious and successful to date! We got the opportunity to hear from many speakers about their plans for strengthening innovation and sustainability, as well as from Macmillan, our chosen charity partner, about our continuous fundraising.✨ A fantastic day! With lots of positive feedback, we also raised over £4000 for Macmillan too! #macmillan #fundraising #developmentday #development #developers #innovation #northwest #unitedutilities #sustainable #sustainablity

Our graduates flex their projects!💪 Each year our first and second year graduates get involved in our CEO Challenge. They are all split into teams and given a real business problem to solve from our CEO.✨ Over a 12 month period, our graduates follow UU's Innovation process to better understand their problem, identify solutions, undertake innovative trials and deliver new solutions. Throughout the CEO Challenge our graduates gain key insight and knowledge about the many sectors of United Utilities, making key connections and boosting their confidence and develop new skills in the meantime! The Mid Point Event is a key event of the programme to showcase their project to date, make new contacts and capture further feedback and ideas from employees across the organisation. This was a great success, with a buzz of energy in the room and opportunity to share their progress with our CEO. Could this be you? Applications for our graduate scheme closes this Sunday 13 October. With a 20-member strong team, the New Cut Heritage and Ecology Trail group meet regularly to look after Paddington Meadows nature reserve, on the banks of the Mersey, carrying out activities such as litter picks, shrubbery upkeep and monthly surveys of the animals and insects. After applying for our Better Rivers Community Fund, the group received new equipment to help support their work during the winter months. Do you have a community project or grassroots organisation that could benefit from this fund? Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/dZtBYe7v
