It was wonderful to be joined by students from Alliance universities during our parliamentary event this week. Many among them were studying healthcare courses. Hearing their stories and immense passion reiterates the importance of training the healthcare workforce at all levels – including level 7. We’re continuing to urge government to save healthcare apprenticeships from being defunded at level 7.

What a wonderful chance to celebrate our professional and technical universities in parliament yesterday🎓 Thank you so much to all our fantastic speakers, from spinout founders to PhD students to MPs and ministers. We were treated to a first-hand look at the innovation happening at Alliance universities with interactive headsets and gloves from MiMU, Feraru Dynamics and Goggleminds. With thanks to our partners Duolingo English Test, for helping to deliver a great event. What a testament to our incredible university members 🚀

We collaborated with Innovate UK ICURe on their London Roadshow event, delivered this week at City St George’s, University of London. ICURe are working diversify the universities they work with, to help researchers from all backgrounds to commercialise their ideas and grow their businesses. Professional and technical universities are a hotbed of innovation - and we're pleased to see this recognised. The event included panel discussions with spin-out founders sharing their experiences - it was great to see Oxford Brookes University and Coventry University represented - and provided opportunities to network with all levels of the ecosystem: from researchers to investors 🚀

University Alliance (UK) reposted this
Congratulations to Dr Arun Ulahannan (PhD) on his appointment as Co-Director of the University Alliance (UK) Doctoral Training Alliance Future Societies (DTA FS) programme! The DTA FS supports PhD researchers in developing solutions for sustainability, equality and access to food and energy. As Co-Director, Arun will expand training across the DTA network, equipping future researchers with the skills to collaborate with local authorities and extend the impact of their work. As a researcher in our Research Centre for Future Transport and Cities and National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat), Arun has led research into accessible transport while also supporting PhD students through supervision and mentoring. Arun has also become a leading voice for PhD guidance, co-launching the How to PhD Podcast with Dr Julia Gauly from the University of Birmingham. Now, with over 250,000 listeners worldwide, it has become a go-to resource for postgraduate researchers, offering guidance and inspiration to navigate the challenges of doctoral study. Arun said: “Supervising and developing our doctoral students has been one of the highlights of my career. This, alongside the How-to PhD podcast, has given me invaluable insights that I’ll bring to this new role.” Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/e-YUrvpm #CovResearch Stewart Birrell

We have submitted a response to the Office for Students strategy consultation for 2025-30. Whilst we support many of the priorities in the strategy, we'd strongly recommend a stronger focus on cutting the cost and burden of higher education regulation. Full response here👇 https://buff.ly/438qOFs

Abi and Elan at University of South Wales felt that a full-time degree wasn’t for them, so took up a Real Estate degree apprenticeship. Working while studying meant they could stay and contribute to their local communities while building the skills needed for their dream jobs 💼 #NAW2025 https://lnkd.in/ebxdcUz9
