University of Birmingham is celebrating 125 years since receiving its royal charter, and what better way to mark this milestone than by sharing our team’s favourite things about working here. ✨🎓 This time we hear from Event Coordinator, Josh Butler, "I've been at the University for almost eight years now, and I've had the chance to work in both UB Sport Fitness and now, Conference and Events. One of the absolute highlights? Getting to be part of the University’s involvement in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The energy in Birmingham was unreal and it was such a proud moment to see athletes from all over the Commonwealth on our doorstep. We hosted teams for hockey matches and they trained in our facilities—making the place feel like a global hub. But one of my favourite memories was seeing the Ghanaian national hockey team walk down the hall with a boombox on their shoulder, dancing and vibing to the moment. It captured the true spirit of the Games! Unforgettable." Managing Mason was an absolute joy—it’s such a stunning building with a beautiful view of the lake, and the students there brought the whole place to life with their energy and fun vibes. After that, I moved to The Exchange before it even opened, and I’ve got some great memories of getting the building ready while rocking a hard hat and hi-vis vest! The Exchange is full of unique features, and it’s such a pleasure to work in a space that holds such fond memories for so many people in Birmingham. Every day here is a reminder of how lucky I am to be part of this amazing community!"
