Exploring the Distinct Business Models of China and Europe 🌏 I am deeply grateful to the Peking University HSBC Business School for inviting me to share insights with Peking University alumni about PICCA Electronics 's operations in Europe and the unique business models we have observed through our collaborations with leading European companies over the years. In this video, I discussed two outstanding companies (Clients of PICCA) and their innovative business models. Cosmo Connected is a prime example of a company revolutionizing travel safety. Their core product, Cosmo Fusion, a smart helmet, retails at €229. However, at Viva Technology this May, they announced a savvy new offer: for just €9.9 per month over a two-year contract, customers receive a Cosmo Fusion device along with individual accident insurance provided by Allianz. This strategic move not only enhances the comprehensive service offered to Cosmo Connected's customers by integrating a crucial element into their product ecosystem, but it also strengthens the product’s competitiveness and market appeal. The lower monthly fee significantly reduces the decision-making time for customers compared to the upfront €229 cost. Osol offers a power bank station that stands out with its aesthetically pleasing design, resembling an elegant home decor piece rather than a typical power bank station. This attractive appearance adds a touch of sophistication wherever it is placed. Unlike the prevalent 2C shared model of low-power portable chargers in China, Osol’s business model is 2B, catering to businesses by providing an additional smart energy storage solution. Their high-power chargers can even support laptops. This highlights two key differences between the business environments in Europe and China. In China, the emergence of WeChat and DingTalk has shifted many mobile business operations from PCs to smartphones, making immediate phone charging a necessity and thus popularizing the ubiquitous rental power banks. In contrast, in Europe, business work predominantly still relies on computers, and the way people work has evolved, no longer confined to their desks. As Osol puts it: "Osol makes power mobile, allowing anyone to work anywhere, at the office or elsewhere." I believe Osol has chosen a business model that is perfectly suited for the European market. Additionally, I introduced STATION F and shared my experiences with the Incubateur HEC Paris . I recommended that promising Chinese startups considering international expansion should apply to renowned European incubators to develop business models and strategies tailored to the European market.
