𝙊𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝 🌍 And we’re excited to share some insights from our 𝘾𝙀𝙊 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧, Shermeena Rabbi , who is not only a skilled Speech and Language Therapist but also a proud multilingual speaker herself. There's a common myth that being bilingual or multilingual can delay a child's speech, but that's simply not true. In fact, children who grow up learning multiple languages often develop stronger communication and cognitive skills. 𝙁𝙪𝙣 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙩: Shermeena speaks 3 languages and understands 7—a real testament to her love for language diversity! 💚🌟 #BilingualChildMonth #SpeechAndLanguageTherapy #Bilingualism #UnlockingLanguage #MultilingualChildren #SpeechDevelopment #ShermeenaRabbi #LanguageDiversity #SLTsInAction #LanguageMatters

🌍 This International Stammering Awareness Day, Our incredible SLT Leah Palmer encourages us to think about what truly makes a good communicator. It’s not about speaking perfectly—it’s about listening, patience, and understanding. Let’s continue to raise awareness and support those who stammer by focusing on connection over perfection. Every voice deserves to be heard. #InternationalStammeringAwarenessDay #StammeringAwareness #UnlockingLanguage #SLTAdvice #InclusiveCommunication #EveryVoiceMatters

The data revealing more boys than girls receiving speech and language therapy for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is eye-opening. It reminds us how crucial early intervention is, especially when most of these children are in primary school. The fact that 74% of children with DLD improve with speech therapy highlights just how impactful the right support can be. At Unlocking Language, we’re passionate about providing the tailored support these children need to thrive—not just in their communication, but in every aspect of their development. Let’s continue to raise awareness and ensure every child gets the help they deserve. #DLDawareness #SpeechTherapy #UnlockingLanguage #ChildDevelopment #SLTsInAction #SupportDLD
Today, we're speaking up for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) by sharing some new data relating to children and young people accessing speech and language therapy. DLD is a hidden but common disability that affects one in 14 people, causing difficulties understanding and using language. It has lifelong impacts. DLD can make talking and listening difficult, leading to children struggling with formal education and exams at school. In adult life, people can face difficulties obtaining employment, as well as social and emotional challenges. Speech and language therapists have a crucial role to play in diagnosing and supporting people with DLD. They can help teach strategies to children with DLD, and those around them, which aim to reduce the impact of these difficulties. Early intervention is crucial so that people with DLD can develop their language abilities and maximise their potential in life. #dld #dldday #developmentallanguagedisorder #communicationdifficulties #useroot #languagedevelopment #SLCN #communicationdevelopment #speechandlanguagetherapy #speechandlanguage #speechandlanguagetherapist #slt #slpeeps #slt2b #childrensdevelopment #school #teachers #teachingassistants #language #communicationneeds #teachersofinstagram #earlyintervention #mentalhealth #wellbeing #school #primaryschool #secondaryschool #preschool #preschoolteacher #preschooleducation

Neurodiversity in AuADHD: Understanding the Overlap Between Autism and ADHD 🧠 Children with AuADHD exhibit a fascinating blend of traits from both Autism and ADHD, reflecting the diversity of neurodevelopmental patterns. These overlapping traits, such as executive functioning challenges, sensory sensitivities, and social communication differences, highlight the unique ways AuADHD brains work. While AuADHD is not yet formally recognized in diagnostic manuals like the DSM-5 or ICD-11, many individuals live with both Autism and ADHD traits, making it essential for tailored support. Understanding these co-occurring conditions helps therapists and educators create more effective interventions that embrace neurodiversity and empower children to thrive in their own way. #Neurodiversity #AuADHD #AutismAndADHD #SLTsInAction #OverlappingTraits #DSM5 #ICD11 #SpeechTherapy

It’s 𝗗𝘆𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸, and here’s a fun fact: while people with dyslexia might get a little tangled up with words, they often think in ways that leave the rest of us scratching our heads! 😅 Dyslexia is part of the 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 spectrum, which means everyone’s brain works a little differently—and that’s a good thing. So, while spelling may not be their strong suit, creativity, problem-solving, and out-of-the-box thinking definitely are! 🙌 Let’s celebrate the amazing strengths of those with dyslexia this week. Today is 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝘀𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆, a time to raise awareness about a condition that affects around 1 in 400 children in the UK (Source: Scope UK). Cerebral palsy impacts movement and muscle control, often due to factors such as premature birth, infections during pregnancy, lack of oxygen during or after birth, and brain injuries in early childhood. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with CP, helping improve speech clarity, introducing assistive communication methods like AAC, and addressing feeding or swallowing challenges. These therapies give individuals the tools they need to communicate and engage more fully in daily life. Let’s use this day to reflect and advocate for greater awareness and support for those living with CP. #WorldCerebralPalsyDay #CerebralPalsyAwareness #SpeechTherapy #InclusiveSupport #UnlockingLanguage
