We all enjoyed hosting members of the planning and policy team from Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government at Houlton School yesterday for their away day. A big thank you to Michael McCulley, the founding Principal of Houlton School, for welcoming everyone and setting the collaborative tone for the day (especially as it was half term).
A real pleasure to welcome members of Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's planning and policy teams led by Michael Bingham and Emily Jones to Houlton School yesterday for their away day. Michael McCulley, the Principal of Houlton School, kicked off the day by setting out how the school is at the heart of the new community. Johanne Thomas and I then explained the background to the planning for Houlton, the opportunities for and challenges facing large scale sites through both planning and delivery and the importance of being aligned for the long term with stakeholders. The weather was kind, so we headed out for a walk around Key Phase 1 which really helped illustrate the points about scale and the importance of green infrastructure. It was, however, a complete surprise to bump into David Keene, who was instrumental in the planning for Houlton before he retired from David Lock Associates Ltd, conducting his own site tour ... so we joined forces and walked around the site together.
