𝐕𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐎 | 🛰 Satellite monitoring reveals new insights into land movement in a California community. Value.Space took up an engineer’s suggestion, leading to the detection of widening and accelerating land movement in Rancho Palos Verdes. ⚠ The City of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, has been in the spotlight due to 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬. In September, the California Governor declared a State of Emergency, and certain neighbourhoods were placed under evacuation warnings. 👍 Casey Jones, a professional engineer and YouTuber covering the situation, recently reviewed our data for landslide movement in Rancho Palos Verdes. He confirmed that it correlates strongly with ground-based monitoring, highlighting the 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 to complement existing systems. Particularly for detecting movement in areas not covered by stationary ground-based sensors ( 🔗 link in comments). 👉 Taking a cue from him, Value.Space analysed 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 for the Seaview neighbourhood, where landslide activity is heavily impacting the community, leading to property red-tagging and utility disruptions. 🚥 Comparing the data from February to September 2024 shows 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, depicted by changes in map indicators from green (stable) to red and orange/yellow (indicating movement). 🚥 ▶ Check out the video below for more insights into what satellite data shows in the Seaview neighborhood.
