Well, what an amazing way to spend a Friday! After 4 years of hard work, our HydroShunter project was revealed to a group of industry professionals at the Severn Valley Railway on Friday 31st January, with Gus Dunster kindly opening the event for us. To see the results of the amazing work by our team, the Severn Valley Railway volunteers and countless sub-contractors and project partners was truly fantastic! The hard work doesn't stop here though, the commissioning and testing of the hydrogen system and wider vehicle trials will continue with further updates to follow in the next few weeks. Innovation is a challenge, especially in rail. To support the launch of HydroShunter and to engage with the wider industry, we invited Enspired Consulting Ltd to host a roundtable discussion about the different barriers and opportunities for hydrogen and wider innovation in rail. The call to action at the end of the event was to build wider collaborations across the industry to help the UK lead in rail innovation. We had a great day at the Connected Places Catapult Clean Futures Demo Day, hosted by BCIMO. Our Chief Engineer, Charles Calvert, and Project Engineer, Callum Nicolson, talked visitors through our work to integrate a hydrogen fuel cell into HydroShunter whilst our CEO, Robert Gibson, MIET, presented about how we will help achieve #netzero in the rail industry. We were also supported by University of Nottingham Energy Institute as part of our Innovate UK project to exploit the benefits of metal hydrides as a storage medium for hydrogen in rail and by Helen Simpson of Enspired Consulting Ltd as part of our wider collaboration agreement.
