Making tech recruitment work

About us

★ WHO IS VC TALENT? ★ We’re a tech talent partner that helps UK businesses hire the right people. We work seamlessly across many sectors for companies of all sizes, from a global 25,000 person company and a FTSE 250 company to tech start-ups and much smaller businesses employing less than 50 people. However, since launching VC Talent at the start of 2021, over 50% of our placements have been in the charities or ‘for good’ sectors for organisations with a positive cause or mission. One thing everyone we work with has in common is that they all have an exciting story to tell. And we’re good at telling their story to ensure we attract the best people for them, whether they are looking for a new role or not. We care deeply about the organisations we help and the careers of the people we place. And we do this at a fair price. We’re not cheap, but we are surprisingly good value. ★ WHAT TYPES OF ROLES DO WE FILL? ★ ⭐ Senior Tech Leadership (up to CIO, CTO) ⭐ SaaS / Cloud Apps ⭐ Dev and Test ⭐ Architecture ⭐ BAs & PMs ⭐ InfoSec ⭐ Cloud ⭐ Data ★ WHY DO MY CLIENTS LOCK ME IN AS THEIR GO-TO RECRUITER? ★ To understand this, I did some research with clients I’ve recruited for many years. Here are the three most common reasons why they work with me. 1️⃣ Culture-first approach - We find skilled candidates who buy into your mission and culture. They stay longer and do better. 2️⃣ Quality over quantity - Smaller, more relevant shortlists that meet high standards, rather than you having to sift through large volumes of unsuitable profiles. 3️⃣ Consistently higher service levels - Our clients value our personal touch and higher service levels. Our clients mean more. Because of the three USPs above, my clients trust me to find and attract people they can’t. Get in touch at: 📧 hello@vctalent.co.uk ☎️ 01793 547011 📲 07798 657716

What is stopping you from landing your dream job? Are you genuinely happy with your career? Too many people are settling right now. Some common reasons are: Fears about rejection. Been in the comfort zone for too long. Waiting to see what happens where they are. Current personal circumstances. Worries about the economic climate. Limiting beliefs that this is the best you can do. I speak with loads of technology professionals who aren't truly happy. But they think they are not unhappy enough to make a move. When we delve into this in more detail, it often boils down to not spending enough time considering what they really want. When they do, they realise they have been settling for too long. Questions to ask yourself are: …what does your dream job look like? …what is the cost of not going for it? …what are you really looking for? …what would this mean for you? ...why is this important? …what matters most to you? …what doesn't matter? …why limit yourself? Once you understand this properly, you will be in a much better position to explore opportunities and live the life you are meant to live. You can then make the change for the right reasons. I mean, why should you settle for anything less. #dreamjob #career #VCTalent

"Every single day, you're either investing in your health or you're withdrawing from it." - Dan Go. What a great quote! I've not been able to get it out of my head since I read it a few days ago. When we talk about investing, the first thing we think of is money. However, this is true for so many things, not just money or health. It could be investing in your relationship with your partner or your friends. Investing in your mind. Or your spirituality. The list could go on. But I'm a recruiter, so I'm relating this to my area of expertise, recruitment. As an employee, you should invest in your career. Ask yourself: 🔶 What value do I bring? 🔶 What can I learn that could impact my career? 🔶 What can I do to make my manager's life easier? 🔶 How do I evidence this? It might help you get that promotion you've always wanted. Or the pay rise. Or a new role with the employer of your dreams. If you're not doing this, you will get left behind. As an employer, you should consider: 🔶 What can I do to invest in my team's career development? 🔶 What about my team's health and well-being? 🔶 How can I develop my EVP (employer value proposition)? 🔶 How can I recruit better? This could result in a better, more motivated workforce. People who deliver more. Less absenteeism. Stay and develop with your organisation. Be the next leader in your business. It could save you money or even make you money in many ways. Get a competitive advantage over your competitors and invest in your team. As a recruiter, these are the questions I ask myself: 🔶 How can I improve what I do for my clients? How can I make their lives easier? 🔶 What about the service I offer my candidates? 🔶 What tools should I invest in to find or attract the best people for the roles I'm working on? 🔶 How am I working on my mental and physical health? After being a recruiter for nearly 20 years, which roughly accounts for over 36,000 hours, I know if I stop improving, it is the same as going backwards. I have committed to continually improving. If you need to work on your mental or physical health, I highly recommend you follow Dan Go https://lnkd.in/e_wyYjgR and get his newsletter. Let's keep investing! #inspired #DanGo #VCTalent

Happy Diwali to all those celebrating and those who aren't. Diwali, the festival of lights, is a Hindu, Sikh and Jain festival that symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". Personally, I have always loved the great food and personal time with family and friends. Over the years, I've learned that it means so much more. I feel blessed every year to have the opportunity to share this time with people I love. Diwali is a perfect time to light up someone's life with the brightness of love and the warmth of compassion. I have one ask. Reach out to someone and give them an emotional hug. Make their day a bit brighter. So, from me and VC Talent, we wish each and every one of you a Shubh Diwali (Happy Diwali) filled with light, warmth, happiness, health, and prosperity. Happy Diwali 🙏🕉

According to Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers: The Story of Success, it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert or even "world-class" at something. So, taking that literally, in recruitment, you need to have been recruiting for over 5 years, 40 hours per week, 48 weeks per year, to achieve over 10,000 hours. With recruitment, I disagree. 10,000 hours of average work = average, not expert. All practice isn't equal, you see. This is a quantity metric and not quality. Now, if you add in deliberate practice. A desire for quality. Seeking out feedback. Self-reflection. Consistent improvement of skills within recruitment as well as outside of it. You're getting closer. So how many hours do I have in recruitment? Over 36,000 and counting. Am I "world-class" at recruiting? Nope, not yet. I'm still learning and improving. But if you ask me about Football Manager/Championship Manager, now that's a different story.

Reason number 28 - why working exclusively with your recruiter is better. Work with your recruiter to refine or pivot your search based on an initial search and interviews. A requirement sometimes starts with a perception of what you think you need and sometimes ends with actually what you need. Ensure you get the right person for your role and the opportunity suits the person you hire. WIN/WIN.
