A big thank you to River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region for time on their stand today at LAMMA Show . It was great to catch up with what they are up to and see that they are Use Case driven rather than technology driven. Even though their funding is from the same source as the 5G Innovation Regions around the UK, they are noticeable that their banner is Advanced Wireless Connectivity where 5G is part of the toolkit to deliver value from data, rather than 5G being the only answer. Even their mobile wireless connectivity unit shows the equal billing given to two technologies at opposite ends of the bandwidth spectrum - both having the ability to support various use cases in their own particular way, but always delivering value to the user. With my VER FACIL LIMITED hat on I'm looking forward to working with both Hartpury Digital Innovation Farm and Harper Adams University to deliver some of those use case. More on that later.

This week we went back to a solution we installed over 12 months ago to check the calibration of our hardware. All is looking good on this IBC tank level sensor solution using long range wireless #LoRaWAN for connectivity. We also remotely control the chemical dosing pump via LoRaWAN and this is automated through our data visualisation platform. The client can adjust a setpoint and our RS485 Modbus Oxygen Reduction Potential sensor data is used to modulate the amount of dosing to the system. Fault monitoring, fluid leak detection, bund fill level, IBC tank level, dosing pump running status and runtime history, real time alerts and automated alerts to replenish the chemical which saves travel and reduces CO2 footprint. We do a lot of #electricmetering as part of our #energymetering solutions. Today we had to do a bit of "spot the difference" when we fitted an RS485 #Modbus to #LoRaWAN device to an electrical panel board with 23 No. #powermeters pre-wired by the manufacturer. We only had Modbus communication to one slave address and upon a quick investigation we found that the 22 other meters were wired back to front. A quick switch of the one out of sync meter RS485 cabling and we now have the #kwh #totalenergy #amps #kva and #harmonics from all 23 No. slave addressed power meters via long range wireless LoRaWAN to our cloud #datavisualisation dashboard. Here is the future of #BMS heating #energymanagement in commercial buildings. Zone control via long range wireless #LoRaWAN In this example we have installed 15 No. #Belimo ball valves across a very large heating system with some valves being over 1500 metres from the LoRaWAN "hub" antenna gateway. For the sceptics out there the furthest device is still only whispering and so to is the gateway to send commands i.e. we could go a lot further still. (and yes that is a steel ceiling!) The units provide status updates, alert if offline and the system is set to fail safe open in this case so that still heat flows if the wireless system is down. All connected seamless to the BMS via #BACnet no subscriptions, no cloud connection required.
