Hedgehogs Can't Eat Pumpkin - please tidy up your jack o' lanterns! 🦔🎃❌ Hedgehogs are strict carnivores! They don't eat plants, and pumpkins are especially bad for upsetting their stomachs. It will give them indigestion, which leads to excessive diarrhoea and severe dehydration. At this time of year, hedgehogs need to retain as many nutrients as possible, so that they are big enough to survive hibernation. [1] Instead of leaving pumpkins on the ground, put them high up! Birds love them, so your leftover jack-o' lanterns will make great, nutritional snacks for our feathered friends! Hedgehogs also love to hide in log piles around this time of year - please check for inhabitants before you light bonfires this season! You could also move log piles just before lighting them, to ensure that you don't miss any creatures living inside. #hedgehog #pumpkin #halloween #conservation #wildlife SOURCES [1] https://lnkd.in/dAsiAyjZ.
Verify Humanity
Non-profit Organizations
Verify Humanity is an animal advocacy NGO working towards a world where speciesism no longer exists.
About us
Verify Humanity is working towards a world where speciesism no longer exists by raising awareness through investigating, researching and challenging conventions. https://linktr.ee/verifyhumanity Speciesism assumes human superiority and has allowed us to construct a contradictory belief system where some animals are welcomed into our home, while others are exploited as insentient possessions. This has normalised brutal processes such as factory farming, the wildlife trade, entertainment killing and conservation culling. In a world where culling, humane slaughter and killing softly are becoming a default setting, Verify Humanity advocates compassionate conservation and co-existence as solutions that promote life, a natural balance and a new way of engaging with our fellow creatures. From vaccinating badgers to limit the spread of TB, to beehive fences to deter elephants from crops and deflecting hunting foxes from wading birds by strategically growing long grass that supports small mammals. We look forward to welcoming you on our mission.

The UK has set a 2024 #BluefinTuna fishing quota— But is it enough to protect tuna? The new 2024 Tuna fishing plan, endorsed by ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas), includes strict regulations aimed at balancing conservation with limited commercial and recreational fishing. Here's the breakdown: - 39 tonnes go to the commercial fishery with low-impact road and reel gear - 16 tonnes are allocated for recreational fishing permits - 10.15 tonnes bycatch Yet, with their long absence from UK waters due to overfishing, one can't help but wonder if these measures are truly beneficial... Bluefin Tunas are particularly at risk of overfishing due to their long lifespans and slow maturation, making it a slow process for their population to recover. So, even in controlled quotas, continued fishing may only add additional pressure on their population, which is still struggling to fully rebound. How can we help then? - explore plant-based seafood option - voice your support for stronger and stricter controls on complete bans - donate or volunteer with organisations dedicated to ocean conservation #veganconservation #fishingban #savetheocean #sea sources: https://lnkd.in/efgA_DiJ https://lnkd.in/d2Cz5BfR

🐆 World Snow Leopard Day 🐆 Today we are celebrating the gorgeous #snowleopard ❄️ Did you know that there may be as few as 3,920 of these stunning creatures left in the wild? Between 2008 and 2016 alone, one snow leopard was reportedly killed and traded every day - that's 220 to 450 cats per year. Although exact numbers are unknown, the true extent of the problem is thought to be even bigger. Their main prey species, wild sheep and goat, are also threatened by illegal and unsustainable hunting in many parts of the snow leopard range. If their populations decline, so do the snow leopards. Want to help? Head over to @snowleopardtrust and help support the fantastic work they do ❤️ #worldsnowleopardday Sources IUCN Red List https://lnkd.in/d9J92rgR Snow Leopard Trust https://lnkd.in/dcsDzTcT

🌊From tiny zooplankton to larger fish and squid🦑, do you know #AtlanticBluefinTuna 's diet changes as it grows? And how much it means to our ocean's ecosystem? 🐠As top predators, the Bluefin Tuna plays an essential role in maintaining prey population and contributes to nutrient cycling, which benefits and balances our marine ecosystems! By embracing vegan alternatives, we can help alleviate the demand for overfished species like the tunas, which in turn, protects our precious ocean biodiversity. So...why don't we take that step together today? 🐚 #ecosystem #biodiversity #verifyhumanity #overfishing #tuna #MarineConservation #veganconservation sources: https://lnkd.in/dRXU622q

Timetable of UK Shooting Seasons❗ At Verify Humanity we do not support or condone any hunting or shooting of wildlife, but as it is unfortunately still legal to some extent, we thought it would be important to share the timetable to remind everyone of the rules. What can you hunt/shoot? Animals listed in the timetable can be legally hunted during their appointed timescales. When can you hunt/shoot? Each animal is different, some can be hunted year-round, but mostly the seasons begin in October and end in January/February. Please see our timetable here for more information on specific animals. How can I hunt/shoot? Some animals can be shot using a rifle, pistol, shotgun or other firearm during their shooting seasons. (You must have a licence to own/use some firearms so always check). You are not permitted to use any type of explosive device or bows/crossbows. 🆘 India's Elephants Are Dying from Speeding Trains! 🆘 Trains speeding through elephant paths in India are needlessly killing and injuring these majestic animals. 🐘 Recently, a pregnant female elephant was hit and killed by a train, leaving her one-year-old calf, Bani, paralysed. Now, Bani is fighting for her life at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital.💔 These heartbreaking tragedies are avoidable! While guidelines exist to protect elephants, they're often ignored, so: 🛑 Speed limits must be enforced 🤖 AI technology should be used to alert train operators of elephants near the tracks. 🚂 ❗Demand Indian Railways to take action now! ❗ SIGN THE PETITION https://lnkd.in/dHinJcPX 🌿 #VerifyHumanity #SaveIndiasElephants #WildlifeProtection #ActNow #CompassionateConservation #EndTrainCollisions Sources 1. Honey and beeswax do not belong to humans! 🐝🍯 It is a common misconception that honey is vegan-friendly, sustainable, or cruelty-free, but this could not be further from the truth. On a commercial level, bee farming is simply exploitation. Bees need a certain amount of honey to survive, as it is their only source of food during the cold months when they cannot leave the hive and pollinate. In large-scale commercial honey farms, all or most of the bees' honey is taken and replaced with an artificial sugar substitute [1] which does not provide the correct nutrients. In some cases, the queen bee's wings are cut off so that she cannot leave the hive. [1] The worker bees will follow her, so this cruel act ensures that the swarm keeps producing products in an environment where they can be farmed for human consumption. There is no excuse to use bee products for human consumption. Stop supporting industries that exploit our wildlife 💛🖤 #bees #beefarming #honey #beeswax #govegan Sources: [1] https://lnkd.in/di_-bSyw

🌟WEDNESDAY WIN🌟 Tees Estuary Recovering Nature, Northumbria ‘T.E.R.N’ Project is set to restore over 110 square KM of worn-down wildlife habitats from land to sea all across Northumbria. The project will open up local river catchment areas that flow to the river. This is to allow more open access points that fish can move safely through. It will also help the natural ocean tides to stabilise with more outlets for the water to go through. Wildlife will be able to flourish in the revived natural environment. The project will also aim to create an array of new nature trails that will allow the local Teeside community direct access to nature to help them to connect with their local wildlife. #TERNProject #HabitatRestoration #WildlifeThriving #VerifyHumanity Sources https://lnkd.in/eguMZZhU https://lnkd.in/dAH59nWi
